Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Team president Bruce Allen said the Redskins would be willing to place the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins next offseason.
"Yes," Allen said when asked directly about tagging Cousins for the third year in a row. "In the collective bargaining agreement, we really have one year and an option that we can do at the end of next season if we don’t get a contract." Tagging a player three years in a row is intentionally cost prohibitive, and Cousins would be due $34 million if Washington tags him again next spring. The Redskins have other options, however, including the transition tag ($28 million) and non-exclusive franchise tag which would both offer the right of first refusal if Cousins signs an offer sheet somewhere else. Of course, all of this madness could be avoided if Washington matches Cousins' contract demands by the July 15 deadline, but that is unlikely at this point

Sigh... can someone over in Ashburn ban Bruce from talking? The more he talks the stupider he sounds. He can't even get his starting QB's name right.

I would say it's more likely now than before the draft: they didn't draft a QB, they didn't trade him like a lot of people expected... Not matching his offer would be crazy, they just HAVE to! Even Cooley and Kevin seem to have lost hope of a LTD before the deadline, I don't get why. Even Bruce saying they are ready to tag him a third time (which make them sound delusional) could really well be the Redskins trying to get some kind of leverage in the negotiation...

As Andrew Brandt puts it, deadlines spur action. I honestly feel that a deal will get done, but it will be at the 11th hour. If they have to tag him again next year, so be it.

My money says he gets tagged next year and then gets HUGE QB Money in 2019 to play somewhere else....

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Honestly, what sticks out to me is the first positive comments KC has said about staying in DC have come AFTER SM was fired. Before this it has been consistent "the ball is in their court" blah blah blah.
Also last year at the combine SM was talking to the media in full "its not just about the QB" mode. KC is so careful and well coached in what he says I cant help but put some weight in the fact that the only positive comments KC has said in two years have come in the last month..... |

In his 2 yrs at starter, Kirk is 3rd in the NFL QBR. Only trails Brady and Ryan

Stop trying to use facts to support your argument. It is confusing to those on the other side.

July 15th is sill 40+ days away. Can't wait to read 237 more stories that say the exact same thing. And I'll read them all because I'm sick and can't help myself.

Kirk Cousins has been the NFL's worst red zone QB, and it's not close | FOX Sports We can all grab onto a stat or 2 to back our sides. At this point, I think a fair contract, where he earns about 18 - 20 million a season is right on, based on where contracts are TODAY. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Not going to make excuses for Cousins but our squad was not remotely set up for red zone success. No size at WR, calling fades, mediocre goal line RB.
If he still sucks at it this year, no excuses. There's length at WR, a smash mouth beast at RB for short yardage, no excuses now.
