It's not a stretch to think a word that's defined in the dictionary as being racist, is offensive to some people. Would we even consider naming a team today Redskins? Of course not.
That’s a fair point.

But again, I find it strange some would support and even vote for a person like Elizabeth Warren who actually lied about NA heritage more than once and benefited from it. But that’s a different subject, for a different time.

To be fair, a thread about our name change IS a purely political thread.

It is, but then when you start bitching about bashing Senators and other stuff, it goes wayyy off topic.

To be fair the Definition of Redskin has been changed over the years to add that language and they use the term offensive not racist.

In all fairness, I didn't see the term defined in the dictionary as racist. Derogatory or contemptuous, but not necessarily racist. There is a difference.

Let’s not split hairs

Quote:
Redskin is a slang term for Native Americans in the United States and First Nations in Canada. The term "redskin" underwent pejoration through the 19th to early 20th centuries and in contemporary dictionaries of American English it is labeled "usually offensive", "disparaging", "insulting", or "taboo".

End of the day .... I honestly dont see Snyder changing the name this year. I think he explores it long enough for it to quiet down then he shelves it.

Admittedly I have not read up on the nuances of the corporate sponsors, the type of money they actually bring in, does their contract have an "out" clause etc

5 years or 10 years down the line? Probably .. maybe.

It's money driven, so he'll change it. And he'll cash in on all of the old gear people are going to buy in droves before the change, as well as the new gear.

Regardless of the name issue, given how much shit the team has done in the past 10-20 years, I don't mind a fresh start with a new identity.

Matty, you need to give us a homework assignment and make us read:

Note - I have no idea who the authors are or what their political beliefs are.
