Not saying it's eat crow time... but for some it's at least time to take a good whiff of what John Beck is cookin'. You know who you are.

LOL

2 more preseason games Matty but yeah, JB was pretty good and Rex didn't do so hot so let's see.

I'm not saying he's the man or anything but it was a pretty good start.

He looked solid, and his postgame presser showed how intelligent he is. He certainly says all the right things and comes off very polished and confident. And I still am not sold at all. It's one half of preseason football against a team that has consistently shown that they don't give a rat's ass about the preseason.

Let's see how Thursday night goes under the lights in Baltimore against the Raven's D in the all important 3rd preseason game.

I will say the guy played very very well. He was in total control out there. I loved the way the ball came out quickly and he was dead on with his passes. But as you said, I'm not eating crow yet. Everyone knows Indy lays down like dogs in the pre season. As a matter of fact, pre season is one big joke. If Beck is named the starter then I want to see it against Jason Tuck and co. It's one pre season game. If pre season counted Babe Laufenburg would be in the Hall of Fame.

It's always neat to check out what people say both before and after. I was just looking at some of the earlier post in this thread (and others) comparing what was being said about Beck before he played 1/2 of a preseason game and what's being said now. Someone said I reserve the right to change my mind.

Well maybe if the mind was not so prematurely made up, a change would not be necessary.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

I don't know how good Beck is going to be. I actually thought he held on to the ball too long a lot in this game. I think his stats look better than he actually played. But, we might as well start him to give him a chance. He definitely has more upside than Grossman. We pretty much know what we are getting from him. Beck is an unknown commodity.

I wasn't a believer, but I was open to seeing what he's got. He's made me a believer with his performance tonight. I think he can start for us, how far he can take us is a question that we've got to wait to be answered.

I will officially join the Beck bandwagon and be a Beck-Believer after the first four regular season games.

I believe that him not starting a game in 3 years can no longer be used against him.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

All Shanny is going to ask from either Beck or Grossman is to manage the offense, not win the game. I am SOOO excited about the improved running game. The 1st team line opened holes against 2 good defenses, and both Hightower and Helu look like the real deal.

Keep in mind these defenses having been playing very very conservative and have not been using close to 30% of their defensive plays (coverages, and blitzes). Also keep in mind that Pittsburgh was without arguably their 2 best players James Harrison and Troy Polamalu. And when we scored against them it was against half 1st teamers, half 2nd teamers.

Good point about opposing defenses. Also with Beck, opposing teams have no film on him. So he's a pretty much an unknown in that regard.

James Harrison did play against us in the first game and the Colts had most of their starters on defense (I think they only were missing Tommie Harris).

The way I see it is that we did a pretty good job in the first and second series in the past two games against most of the starters from the opposing team. In previous preseason games when this happened, we looked like crap and committed the same mistakes that we would see during the regular season.

It is good to see do a good job in the past two games, it is better than having them come out versus the first-teamers and completely screw up. I don't think this screams championship or anything like that, but it is good to see progress.
