Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Seems that old Mel even believes we will be in play for Peyton if he's cut and healthy.

Chat: Chat with Mel Kiper - SportsNation - ESPN

This would be the perfect scenario.

1) Sign Peyton Manning to 3 year contract.
2) Draft Justin Blackmon in the 1st round.
3) Draft Foles (or Tannehill if he's available) in the 2nd round

I would do back flips over this scenario.
What would cause you to do front flips?

Andrew Luck with the 6th pick.

Reminder: This is only about what I've heard. And remember things change. Also, this isn't about some of the later round prospects they have been scouting like Harnish or Dominique Davis

Current QBs

Rex Grossman: They've been working on a 1-2 year deal, but talks have stalled. But that may be because both sides decided to just hold off further talk until the offseason. I know there are other teams that have expressed interest in Rex (to the surprise of many I'm sure) as a veteran backup.

John Beck: Gone, but don't be too surprised if he stays through most of training camp. Particularly if Grossman goes elsewhere

Jonathan Crompton: Likely gone

Free Agents (only those who have been linked to the Redskins):

Kyle Orton: I'm actually not totally sure he's a FA, but the Redskins aren't likely to pursue him. Have heard the Jets are a possibility for KO

Matt Flynn: I know his name is the hot name being tossed around and everyone is connecting him to the Redskins. But I haven't had one legit source tell me there is true interest. Maybe there is, but from all I've heard it sure doesn't sound like it

Josh Johnson: Interest, but not as a starter.

Brian Hoyer: He's Restricted, but he's a potential sleeper. Papa Shanahan likes him (I can't speak for Junior). But he might be someone to keep an eye on.

Peyton Manning: None that I've heard of

Trades:

Jimmy Clausen: Very possible if the Panthers decide to move him. Redskins won't offer higher than a conditional 5th and he wouldn't be brought in to be the unquestioned starter. Skins have been monitoring Clausen situation since last spring when Panthers took Cam.

Mark Sanchez: Rumor was smoking hot three weeks ago but has died down a bit. Not as likely to happen anymore

Sam Bradford: This is probably choice #1. To figure out some way to get Bradford without giving up both their 1st and 2nd this year. No one knows that the new Rams regime is going to do, but Redskins are definitely keeping tabs on what happens there because if they can get Bradford they'll likely do just about "whatever it takes" to get him. Which is interesting, because they didn't want to 2 years ago. Though now "whatever it takes" is probably much less

Colt McCoy: Have not heard of any legit Redskins interest in him.

So I think Plan A is make a run for Sam Bradford and possibly add someone like a Jimmy Clausen/Brian Hoyer. Though Hoyer may cost too much to not start him. Bradford and Clausen! Could you imagine, how silly would that be. Plan B is draft a Jones/Tannehill and someone like Grossman or Josh Johnson is the veteran/transition QB.

My gut prediction as of today...Landry Jones (I know I've been saying Tannehill but I'm honestly going back and forth on the two) and Rex returns as the backup.
Not much discussion of Hoyer, but I agree with the assertion that he may be the Redskins' sleeper solution to the QB question:

Brian Hoyer - New England Patriots - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Shanahan and Belichick have an unusual/special relationship among NFL coaches. Hoyer has had an opportunity to learn the position under a top flite player and coach. Also, Ryan Mallett has spent a year learning the role of backup, and the Patriots have a reputation for not keeping/paying players that they really don't need. Would not shock me at all if Belichick lets Shanny have this guy for a bargain. Hoyer is a restricted free agent, as noted above.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

i have no interest in having manning on this team. when healthy, manning runs his own offense and i dont see why he'd want to come here, especially when his old qb coach is with the jets. if mannings a free agent, he's going to sign in new york and play in the same stadium as his little brother.

Agree...

Can you picture the "chat" between Kyle Shanahan and Peyton Manning when Kyle thinks Peyton ought to adjust his footwork or his release point?

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

Why would Indy give up a healthy Manning, if they release/trade him it's because his neck injury is worse than they originally thought it was. He wouldn't want to come here and I don't want him. Give me Bradford or RGIII.

Because they were stupid and agreed to the huge contract he has. and because they don't want locker room drama which sounds like it will occur if they draft Luck. So they take the next P.Manning and get rid of the actual P.Manning.

I'm with you in thinking that Indy would only give up on Manning, contract or not, if he were damaged goods.

Manning would never come here. He wants more rings we are too far off for that happen in the next few years. PM will be a in a wheelchair by the time this team catches up to him.

NYJ is a perfect fit for him. Great def, weapons on O, etc...

Um, I don't think we are that far off. I'd venture to say the Jets are farther off then the Skins. Our problem is on the offensive side of the ball and at Safety. Our OL started playing better by the end of the year, the RB's were getting yards pretty good, We beat the Giants twice.... who by the way is still in the playoffs.

We pick up a really good smart QB and maybe another WR or two, a SS and FS and I think we are doing well.

If you think the current Redskins are in better shape then the Jets, man I have waterfront property in AZ to sell you.

Look at STL or CLE that is how the rest of the league sees us.

Sure we will see who does better next year. Don't beleive what the media shovels you.

Why do folks have such a hard time understanding we have a bad time (getting better) but still bad.

Do we really know if there aren't two or three Redskins players who think that Rex Grossman is awful and is preventing the Redskins from winning? And if there are, wouldn't that make the Redskins locker room just as bad as the Jets?

I'm glad that we generally sign players with some modicum of discretion as to what they say to people, but I wouldn't go as far to call the Jets locker room a circus and pretend like the Redskins have it better. The Jets apparently have some jerks on their team. They'll get over that.
