Re: Clinton Portis appreciation thread

With out question Portis has been my favorite player for many years. I have been hoping to see him return to his Pro Bowl form but i guess it just wasn't meant to be. I am very sad to see him go but wish him all the best. Shame we couldn't have kept him as a 3rd down back. His blocking skills alone would have been well worth the risk of injury

His price tag wasn't. You don't pay a blocking specialist elite money. Ever.

I was at his first game as a Redskin where he busted off that 64 yard touchdown run. I'm definitely gonna miss him, lotta people gave him shit what with being injury prone these last 2 years but he did play with heart and he has always been our best blocking back for a long time. I really wish him success elsewhere, I just wish his time as a Redskin had been better in terms of wins and success.

The saddest part of his leaving to me was not the record (Riggo was my fave in the 80s so I can't route against him keeping the record), but the renewed commitment when Shanahan came in. CP was a pain in the ass for Zorn but then cleaned his act up this past year, but we'll likely never see what SE Jerome et al will play like in their twilight in DC.
That's the same play I was going to mention as my own favorite. Actually, Portis scored the touchdown that put us ahead, and then Sean recovered the fumble that put the game out of reach and sealed the playoff spot. What a great five-game run that was.

6,824 yards.
46 touchdowns.
7 seasons.

One can only guess what he could have done with an Hog-like offensive line.

Thank you CP. Godspeed.

Clinton always played hard and you can never ask anything more of a player. I always liked Clinton and I think he will be missed. So as of now, we do not know who is going to take the snap from center or whom he will hand it off to or whom he will throw it to. My, we look like we are going to have a stellar season in Shanahan II.

This video really highlights his best years as a Redskin in Washington:

If you watch these clips you see this one from 04 to 07 which shows some really great runs then when you watch the older clips they are filled more with good blocking.

Right! It's coming back to me now. That 5 game run was great, it was like CP was the personification of Joe Gibbs' mission, and he was carrying years of Skins nostalgia & disappointment on his back. It had only been 6 years since the playoffs but it seemed like decades.

I just remember the feeling I had when he broke around the corner & was getting close to the goal line. I had a new year's day party that day & by then I was deep into a bottle of bourbon. My in-laws were watching w/us & they are all cowpoke fans. I sang HTTR after every score & then some, they got really annoyed w/me but were cool about it. Then I kept saying that I was going to bet my house on us beating tampa. Maybe I shoulda followed through on that!
