It's funny but wasen't Patton considered a bum when he was released by the Giant's? The fact is circumstances sometimes dictate a players success, there have been plenty of players who were given up on be thier first team for one reason or another, only to go on and have fabulous careers, some hall of fame careers, just because Jacobs hasen't had succees yet doesn't mean he won't, I am very curious to see how he performs in a Saunders offense? And yes he's a better special teams player than Patton. I don't see the need to carry Patton as a 4th WR, better to let him seek significant playing time else where, personally I believe all our WR's are going to really flourish under Saunders, which means who makes the most sense? Like it or not it just may be Jacobs whom does a good job on specials. |

Re: Patten to be released?
My only concern is that the coaching staff is talking up Patten in order to create a market for him. If he's "making great steps forward", then he has value. If he's "clearly not in the mix", then he doesn't.

Re: Patten to be released?
Patten played for the Patriots prior to coming to Washington.
The fact of the matter is Patten is better than probaboly both Thrash and Jacobs...why would get rid of someone who is a better player than another person? Pattne has stated that he is more than happy to compete for playing time, so that tells me that if he's not the best, he dosent mind not playing, or will work hard to see that time. Jacobs is a freaking joke, how that guy even stayed on this long is amazing to me, its time to cut our losses with him and move on.

Re: Patten to be released?
It's all been said aleady. Patten is the better player. It won't surprise me if he gets cut tho, hes a spare part at this point.

Re: Patten to be released?
It would be a critical mistake to release Patten. We need him for depth, and also to keep people from getting at all complacent.
Taylor Jacobs has had his opportunites here in my view. He has the talent, but he has to go somewhere else to realize it. We don't have the time to wait for him to develop anymore. |

Re: Patten to be released?
I'm thinking this is bs speculation and think you'll see Patten in Redskins gear on opening day...

I think I found the problem with this report! It's only a rumor, coming from Radio 980 and not a reputable source. And the Boston Hearald isn't the biggest paper in Boston for good reason as well!

Re: Patten to be released?
This report is 100% garbage. I can't believe we went to five pages with this thread.
Gibbs has been saying all offseason that David Patten is having a tremendous offseason, and that he looks great. He's not going anywhere, he could still be our #2 WR.

Re: Patten to be released?
The only thing missing from this thread is a reference to LennyP's earlier story.
That, and this pencil.

Re: Patten to be released?
Quote:
1) Taylor Jacobs has never done anything in this league. Patten has, he was an effective deep threat for the Pats. So you have to at least give Patten a chance to show that he can be that player again now that his knee is healthy. 2) Jacobs is the epitome of a practice field player. He wows the coaches on the practice field, and then on game-day he can't get anything done. It's because he's a major pussy, when the bullets start flying he hides in his litte shell like a turtle. He had plenty of chances last year to make an impact with Patten and Thrash both banged up. He didn't get it done. And lastly, how cheap Taylor Jacobs is has nothing to do with anything. The only reason to care about a player's cap figure is when you have other holes to fill on your team. The Skins have only two areas that could use upgrading, IMO. That's the offensive line depth and CB depth. But at this stage of the offseason, there is literally nobody available who would represent an upgrade at those positions (well Ty Law, but we couldn't afford him even if we cut Patten). So, since we can't do any upgrading, cap space is not an issue for us. You simply keep the best player.
