I do think that Ben is overrated. Look at the situation that he landed in when Pittsburgh drafted him. He went to a team that has a solid ground attack, a good o-line, good receivers and one of the best defenses in the league, not to mention very good special teams play. Hell, I would bet that Eli or Phillip Rivers could have put up simialar numbers to Bens had Pittsburgh drafted one of them. IMO, Ben landed in the best situation imaginable for any young QB....

Sure he landed in an ideal situation. But he's contributed his part as well.

QBs get tons of hype, especially when they are winners. Ben is a winner, nobody can deny that. His hype is definitely overplayed, but at the same time he is a quality player who is still has plenty of room to grow.

I understand what 8588 is saying though. Put Roethlisberger in Texas or Detroit and would he have done the same? Put David Carr in Pittsburgh, what happens?

I would say you would be correct if this was a veteran QB. He is young and new to the NFL and thats the reason he is not overated. The guy has gone in and done everything that his team has needed and then some.

Good job legitimizing this thread firstdown. Now it can't be called a homerfest.

I also dont think that taylor should be in the under-rated column, his is going into his third year as a number 5 draft pick, recievers fear him and quaterbacks dodge him, but i'd say if he doesnt make the pro-bowl this year somethings up.

Archuleta's coverage skills are pretty weak. Williams will mask his weaknesses as much as possible and have him play closer to the line. I'll guarantee one thing, you won't see him covering a #2 receiver let alone #1 WR solo.

When did that happen? Surely you can't be talking about All-Pro 3 Time Pro Bowler Roy Williams? Must be some other guy, because i know that RoyGod would never do something as bad as that.

Put Ben in Texas and they would still stink. Carr in Pitt? I highly doubt he would have enjoyed the same success.

In Pittsburgh I think they captured the perfect mix of a young, talented QB and a team well built to mask his weaknesses and exploit his strengths.

I guess the best defense for BR is how badly Tommy Maddox stunk up the joint and all the Steelers losses when Roeth wasn't in there. It's sort of how it took Sean Taylor missing the Tampa game last season for a lot of people to appreciate his value.

big ben is overrated. He is in an amazingly easy system for a QB. He proved himself in the playoffs a bit but he didn't in the super bowl. This article made me so happy. I hate williams

i do think williams is a bit over rated but.... i could easily see him along side sean taylor in our defensive back field.in the right system he could be a monster

exactly arch is a strong safety, just like roy plays less in coverage and more to the line of scrimmage for the run support. But roy had the reputation of being this all around badass safety which is truely not the case. He is in no way deserving of ed reeds contract figures.

Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article

I alway's liked AA, he's a big play type of saftey, we have to trust Williams eye for defensive talent that AA will be a significant upgrade over Clark.

Systems many times make the player as well as the technique that they are asked to play on defense, I believe Williams already knows how to use AA and which coverage techniques will best fit his attributes, players always seem to be much better in Williams defense than others, kind of like the old 9er's QB's everyone looked great in thier system, Same thing with Gibbs back in the day he was able to make a run of the mill QB look and play like an all pro, yet these players very rarely did much outside of those systems. Once Lovey Smith left the Rams thier defense went downhill AA still was able to shine. We will no very quickly if he was worth the money compartivly to the production Clark would have brought to the table? I liked Clark a lot but Williams must have seen something significantly better in AA to pay that kind of money and let Clark go. I believe he's right!
