Re: Any Positives From Tonight's Game?

Not many. Guys that thought they could make the team because they were good on special teams better forget about that. Danny will be looking to field the guys from last year.

Positives :
  • We still can field the special teams guys from last year.
  • Doughty looked much improved.
  • Mcintosh looks solid, but not yet ready.
  • Brunnell didnt throw an INT.
  • Our biggest advantage may be game planning... and that isnt part of the preseason.

Maybe we should switch back to the red pants, we've lost our last three games where we've worn all white.

Re: Any Positives From Tonight's Game?

The Schneed is officially a bit concerned. I'm not panicking because the 3rd preseason game is usually considered the big one, where Gibbs actually plays the starters and even game-plans a little bit. Last year we went 0-2 and then rolled in the 3rd preseason game. So I'll reserve complete judgment till then. It's almost as if Gibbs and Williams are purposely putting their guys in rough situations to humble them, preventing them from getting caught up in the hype. But that doesn't explain everything.

Positives:
I'm a little more convinced that Kenny Wright can hold up decently for Springs. I need to see more though.

The receivers were getting open for the most part.

The line protected Brunell pretty decently.

Negatives:
I don't care how vanilla the schemes are, there's no excuse for Frost's performance. He continues to be really inconsistent. Punter is officially a concern for us going into the season.

The special teams played like they couldn't care less. I'm sure that will be fixed this week though.

The QB-WR timing is still not in sync. This isn't really a big negative though, I don't expect it to be in sync yet. As long as the receivers are getting open, the timing will come around.

i saw a few positive things last night...very few.. campbell had his moments except for when he threw it to david patten. i swear that patten "alligator armed" a few. seems like he doesn't want to take a hit.

Re: Any Positives From Tonight's Game?

i thought mike rumph and kenny wright both did a pretty decent job. and our second team offensive line also had a big improvement over last week when they got steam rolled. its pretty obvious that saunders and company are showing nothing, and pretty much restricting the offense. i think an onsides kick and a double reverse in a preseason game is a bit much. everyone around here needs to relax until the real deal starts

In his postgame interview, Mark Brunell refuted the notion that "vanilla offense" is what's handicapping them. If the coaches are calling simple plays, then it should not require anything other than simple execution. So far, the starting offense has not demonstrated that. Other than 3 good passing plays (one to Lloyd last week, and two tonight to Randle El), the starters are having trouble going more than 3 play before having to punt.

One other thing -- pointing this out doesn't indicate "panic" or that we all need to "relax." It's an observation, that's all. The only one who showed anything close to panic tonight, was Joe Gibbs. What does that tell you?

If anyone is actually upset about this game...
It IS preseason. Super Bowl year we went 0-4 and Gibbs was furious the entire training camp. Mark my words, this is all going according to PLAN. Minnesota better look out.

Its not about winning the game we know preseason means shit. Its about sustaining a fucking Offensive series and proving that they can execute and get in the end zone together. Their has been an Impotent Offense looming over this team for the past 5-10 years it cant prolong a drive and get it upfield.
Defense played with both hands spreading their asscheeks open.Sorry for the graphics.

Keep that positive attitude 66 that's what we need. When we're winning we're grinning, when we're loosing we're crying. Just a couple weeks ago we were talking SB and even JG suggested everyone bring it down, now after two less than spectacular performances we're all stressed out.....Chill....It's going to be alright.

Re: Any Positives From Tonight's Game?

lets look at it this way. straight up formations with little or no motion or movement. alot easier to play defense against. and the point about gibbs doesnt carry alot of weight because ever since coach gibbs has been here, does anyone ever remember a time when he has stated publicly that he was satisfied with his team?

We can look at any way we want. My point is, the players and the coaches don't look at it like, "it's just preseason, don't worry about it," or, "chalk it up to a 'vanilla' offense." That's called fan-speak. Trust me, anyone who puts on a uniform with their name stitched on it can't be anything but ashamed by their performance over the past two games, preseason or not.

And there's a difference between Joe Gibbs' propensity for cautious skepticism and being straight out pissed off at the way his team looked.
