Why is there a Star on the Cowboys helmet?

What is the story behind why Dallas uses a Star on each side of their helmet to represent their name? What the f&*k do Stars and Cowboys have to do with one another? If you ask me, the logo on their helmet should be a silhouette of Jerry Jones gettin' bucked off a bull. And don't tell me that it represents the Lone Star State because technically, there are two stars on their helmets not one.
