Re: Rumor: Nate Clements to 49ers.
Yeah, that's the sort of thing that I don't want to happen. Then again, if it did, hopefully we would only have to deal with him for 2-3 seasons because he its getting up there in age.
EDIT: Nevermind, he's younger than I thought

Re: Rumor: Nate Clements to 49ers.
ill tell you what. with all the bitching and moaning that goes on around here, how come no one ever praises our capologist? those puny 5 million dollar signing bonus', along with the 5 year contracts look like bargain basement prices right now. kudos to our front office

Re: Rumor: Nate Clements to 49ers.
As to Thomas, I think someone is going to seriously overpay for this guy. He's been around for a while and it was only this year that he came up big. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy has talent BUT I also think that Baltimore's D Coordinator (Rex "son of buddy" Ryan) was very creative in their use of him.
He is not a plug-and-play guy. He needs a scheme that lets him have a lot of options in how to play. You stick him in as a traditional LB or DE, he is nothing special (Baltimore did both of those things - he was good but not superstar good). With that said, a creative D-coordinator could have a lot of fun with this guy. If I was him, I would've been headed to Boston so fast it would have made your head spin. If the Pats were anywhere close in terms of money - I would have accepted less to play on Belichecks D. Completely off topic - With salaries and SB's so high, you would think a few of these players would think quality of life issues in making their decisions. I mean, really, how much money do you need? If its between signing with a loser for 20M and a winner for 15M - I go with the winner every time. But hey, that's just me. Since it is unlikely I will ever be confronted with two such offers, I am fairly certain I shall never have to face such a dilemma.

Re: Rumor: Nate Clements to 49ers.
Laying 5mil on the table is a pretty serious decison. Don't let the difference between 20 and 15 being 5 fool you. The part that is important is the MILLION. 5 is not a lot. 5,000,000 is a huge amount.

Say I spend 1,500,000 to get my self set in a nice house, couple nice cars, etc. I still have, at min ~400,000 a year to spend - with no mortgage or car payments. If that is an insufficient amount to live well on, then you, my friend, have a problem with budgeting. (Hell, you could even let loose on occassion and make it rain for a few hookers). Yes this is simplistic and doesn't account for taxes, but my point is that, at the numbers being thrown around, a million here and there is just greed for greed sake. Okay, I await the - "well it's the sports culture that costs money" - response (or its equivalent)
