Re: So now what at Guard?
DAVIS WANTS BIG MONEY
Word on the NFL street is that free-agent offensive lineman Leonard "Big" Davis, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2001 draft, is looking for $23 million in guaranteed money. We're told that the request was made during a visit by Davis to the Cowboys. Consequently, the visit was a short one. Hey, if the guy was that good, the Cardinals' line wouldn't have been so bad. And the Cards would have used some of their staggering cap surplus to keep him. Next up for Davis is the Redskins. But if they weren't ready to pay Derrick Dockery, why would they pay Davis? Not gonna be a skin, for this kinda cash! I HOPE!

Re: So now what at Guard?
re-signing wade would be good, if it was cheap... he's probably looing for a starting RT job though.
we did sign pucillo, but... no clue on if he can start at OG and play well or not. |

Re: So now what at Guard?
In the end this maybe the way we have to go. No cap money and the market is just to high. The pool of top guys are drying up. Get Wade and draft a guard in april by moving down from that 6th pick. That way you have someone to step in if Wade doen't work out and a young guy for the future!

Re: So now what at Guard?
I would like to get Davis, but a cheaper alternative might be Floyd "Porkchop" Womack for the Seahawks, he is 6-4 330 lbs, and has started 32 games in 6 seasons, he is said to be a great run blocker but shaky in pass protection.

Re: So now what at Guard?
I hope this is teaches Snyderatto and Redskins Management a lesson that Free Agency is not the way to go to get talent. Keep all of your draft picks and live by the draft and cheaper FA's. Free agent salaries are way off and out of control. I think there will be several teams with buyers remorse this season. Dockery was way overpaid. I am glad he is someone else's problem (overpaid) then ours. We are still stuck with Archuleta's crazy contract.

Re: So now what at Guard?
this leaves us holland and?
doesn't seem like Davis really had any interest...just using the skins to drum up more money...seems like he wanted to stay home all along...

Re: So now what at Guard?
What about Luke Petitgout?
He played guard early in his career and I would say a slightly better player to Dockery (unlike Davis who I thought was slightly worse). He is coming off a fibula break and might be tempted to go to a division rival. Could be a case where the Skins take on some risk, save some money, and perhaps reap some benefit from a division rival--similar to the strategy that the Giants and Eagles have used on us with former players. |

Re: So now what at Guard?
What about Mike Gabdy [Bills] ,Cooper Carlisle [Denver] or Chris McIntosh[Seattle]? There are some not so bad players out there and not paying so so guys like Davis that much cash!

Re: So now what at Guard?
Carlisle is interesting since he knows the Denver zone blocking system. I don't know how much of that Saunders calls for Portis--but it is something to consider.
