i dont mind that they predict us to do so bad every year, i just wish that they werent always right.

Unfortunately you are right on with that one. The MSM shows no love for the Skins, but for the most part they are dead on, so until proven otherwise I don't see why we even bother bitching at all. Just cheer the Skins on and hope they stay healthy and surprise folks. We can be a very solid football team or just average. The defense alone isn't going to win games for us. Our D all around in 2005 was solid, this season we have no depth in the DB at all. If one guy goes down we might be screwed.

Amen guys. But if there is a position we are deep at, it is DB. I think you meant to say D-line.

I don't think we are all that deep at DB from what I had seen during the preseason. I am focusing on our CBs for the most part. WE have 3 really good CB's, but the best of the lot(Springs) is injury prone, Smoot is not the stud we drafted several years ago(sucked at Minnesota for the most part), and Rogers is improving steadily but still can get beat. Losing Springs for a few weeks is likely, but what if Smoot or Rogers sprains an ankle during the same time frame? We are screwed. DL is not much of a concern for me. It has been so bad for so long that you just have to live with the fact that it sucks.

Re: Mark"stinky"Schlerth needs to be jolly stomped

when are you people going to open your eyes and see that a team that has had losing records for 8 of 10 years does not deserve to have the credit you think they deserve. Out of four teams in our division, we are the only ones that did NOT make the playoffs. And might I remind you all it took was an 8-8 record to make it!! Stop being ignorant to reality. We have been mediocore at best for the better part of a decade(and that is being complimentary)

what do predictions mean anyway? absolutely nothing. who cares what one person says over the next guy? funny how when someone says we will be 9-7 and in the playoff hunt how you all jump on him saying he knows football and "our" team. when in reality, the people who have played and generally knows what it takes and knows the ins and outs generally have been pretty dead on when it comes to our record. (ie, the football players)

I like Mark Schlereth. I think he's one of the best even if I don't agree with his take on the Skins. What was his reason for predicting the skins would finish last? He is usually pretty good about explaining the reasons behind his position.

Re: Mark"stinky"Schlerth needs to be jolly stomped

It is okay when the critisim is fair but this sounds uninformed.

If the d-line age and injuries were a problem then we have adressed that by getting younger and have youth in depth.

The LB corp who missed so many takles has been overhauled with London Fletcher and Rocky McIntosh replacing the ineffective Marshell and Holdman and there is a new possition coach...

S : right up untill the redskins called him at No6 Landry was touted as the best defensive player in the draft ...make of that what you will....but now Taylor can take up his true role of FS insted of having to play a hybrid role which should help him to stop thinking he has to rush into run support and get eaten by playfakes ...plus PP is back to spell as a starter if needs be .

CB : The starters are the same but the nickle and dime back are much improved

Yes we could have done more but not without blowing up the D and starting again ...

Fox Sports' Schein just gave us a 5-11 nod also. What is the big deal guys? Most preseason rags have us finshing 3rd in our division at best. No biggie anyway. The Dolphins will be a good indicator on how the season will go.

Dude chill. Remember we were 5-11 last year. He is paid to give his opinion. We have more question marks than Dallas and Philly.

Re: Mark"stinky"Schlerth needs to be jolly stomped

I do not have a problem with Stink's comments in that the Eagles and the Cowgirls are the two best teams in the division. I do take exception to two things he said:

1) That the Giants will finish better than the 'Skins this year.
2) That McNabb will be healthy all year. I would love to know on what basis he formed that opinion; Donovan's recent past history would certainly seem to indicate that he will be lucky to play in more than 10 or 11 games this year.

In regards to predictions overall:

If I remember correctly, before last year the MSM was all over the Skins's collective nuts and talking about how great their off-season acquisitions were and how good they would be. I believe during that stupid ESPN rate the whole NFL by position group and overall team things, they had the 'Skins being the 3rd the best team in the NFL. Obviously they were wrong. These guys make predictions to feed our country's insatiable appetite for everything NFL.

Now going completely against what I just said, both Jaws, who watches more film than any analyst and Football Prospectus, which uses a ton of statical analysis, predicted a good year for the 'Skins. So I take that as a good sign.

Regarding McNabb, he sure looked healthy in the pre season games. Plus according to Reid, McNabb had on of his best camps. Now of course he could get hurt at anytime like anyone else, but I think he is close to 100%.

here is an example of what I say on this board. people go against the skins, they are idiots, someone who says they will be good, and they are the know all be all in the NFL. did you see the NFC east last year? 3 teams made the playoffs. Now of the four in our division, which one did NOT make the playoffs?? right, the skins. what makes you think they would put any of those 3 behind the skins. why should they be?
