Now that it's all hip...I want some blame for this thread also!
But seriously, the title of this thread is "6 Turnovers= A poorly coached team". And that's just never, ever, necessarily true regardless of the circumstances.

After the game I was thinking ok, outside of the decision to go for it on 4th and short there should be no major gripes with the coaching today. The turnovers are all on the players, and then bingo we have this thread. ![]() |

When you are that close to the goal line, you want to take advantage of the field position and try to punch it in. The chronic inability for this team to pick up a yard on the ground is a whole different story, and has been for the last two years. At some point, we are going to want to get that corrected.

Re: 6 Turnovers= A poorly coached team
Just looking at the replay from that 4th down play--if Portis breaks it outside to the left he walks in. I didn't mind the call--it was early in the half--and you're right about the field position. I'd rather have Gibbs be aggressive in that instance...

Unless we win. Then none of these nitpicky things matter to that crowd. Don't let them know that the ultimate outcome of the game has nothing to do with the reasoning for any given decision. The whole notion that if we lose, something must have gone wrong on Gibbs' end is really draining from the board. When we win, we get very reasonable, solid debates on select coaching decisions. When we lose, no one seems to remember the first thing about coaching football.

Re: 6 Turnovers= A poorly coached team
I thought this year all the players were at our work outs and only Springs came late and maybe one other player.

Re: 6 Turnovers= A poorly coached team
A poorly coached team is not in the game until the very end when they have 6 turnovers...
The Skins gave the Bucs every opportunity to put the game away early, and the Skins defense bent, but did not break. Both sides of the ball stepped up in the 2nd half and played almost perfectly. The offense moved the ball with ease, while the defense geared up and put the kibosh on the Bucs. The coaches made the necessary adjustments at halftime, and the Skins came out a totally different team. The Bucs defense are notorious for going for the strip, and were very successful in the 1st half yesterday. Campbell's fumble was caused by a breakdown of pass protection, as he did step up when he was getting rushed from the outside...Samuels got beat worse than a red-headed stepchild on whipping day. The Bucs also have 2 Pro Bowl Corners who make big plays when called upon. Brian Kelly and Ronde Barber made plays when they needed them most, and made them on a young Quarterback. I think the coaching staff had the Redskins prepared for yesterday. The players did not execute early, and it came back to bite them in the end. 4 turnovers in 5 possessions is completely uncalled for. You cannot blame the coaches for player execution for one game. Over the course of a season, you can blame coaches for not having players prepared. However, the 2nd half showed that this team was prepared, they just didn't execute in the 1st half.

That comes with the territory of inexperience. I can tell you how to do something but you have to figure it out yourself practice pressure & game pressure are different.

Re: 6 Turnovers= A poorly coached team
Coaching had nothing - as in 0% - to do with any of the turnovers yesterday. They were entirely - as in 100% - execution error on the part(s) of the player(s).
In addition to the turnovers, there were more than a couple of dropped passes too. Before anyone gets any ideas, the coaches weren't responsible for those drops either...
