No doubt making the playoff is better than not but IMO this team made the playoffs in spite of Gibbs not because of him.

You forgot to mention Tomlin who did make the playoffs. The coaches you name all coached bad teams. If the Skins are half as good as most on this board think a young coach would have no problem guiding this talent-filled organization to the playoffs. I have no doubt this organization will hire a "name" coach as this is what the orgfanization & fans demand.
Are you really fucking serious? Or are you just trying to be some little annoying 12 year old? Im being serious, are you trying to be sarcastic or not? If your not, then brother you need to get your head from out of your ass, and hurry up about it. Do you really, truly, actually believe that this team did what they did WITHOUT leadership, from the only man, probaly in the entire NFL, that could have guided and lead this team thru such tradgedy? Are you really, truly, actually suggesting a younger, fiery kind of whipper snapper that you prefer would have been able to do anything slightly resembling what Coach Gibbs did? I think that is the stupidist thing Ive heard so far this year, and what sucks is its only the 7th. I usually dont respond to such horse shit as this, and you can call it your opinon, its still horseshit, but I just couldnt 'step away from the computer' on this one.

Thank you. Nicely put.

You might want to expand on that a bit and give us a clearer rationale as to why you think that, because as it is right now it sounds pretty damn ridiculous. Especially when it seems that every player that is asked about it says that Gibbs was the glue and steadying force that held the team together during the Taylor tragedy. This sounds like 2005 all over again with some people deflecting due credit away from Gibbs for any success the team has.

Gibbs kept making all the usual gaffes (poor clock mgmt and overall sideline confusion) then the ST murder happened and JC got hurt. IMO the team leaders like Portis & Smoot rose up and brought this team together and extolled them to play for ST. That kind of thing can only come from a player not a coach. Collins got the O rolling with AS calling the plays and GW had the D humming, Gibbs just got out of the way and let everyone else do their thing.

I want the Skins to find a new young and energetic coach instead of going after a "name" like they always do.
Well, maybe we'll get lucky enough to have a bad season next year so that we can clean house, get a #1 draft pick for '09 and start the never ending rebuilding process that we've been in since '93. Sounds like a great plan to me.

The other downside, Irish, is that it is harder for people to get so pissy when Gibbs supporters bring up the 2005 playoff run. It's harder for Gibbs critics to argue that 2/4 of Gibbs' years were flukes.

Why is there a need for a new, energetic coach? Do you think Gibbs is no longer putting in the effort? Do you think Gibbs is too old and out of touch with today's generation?

I would like for all of the coaches to stay for stability. I think if a new regime came in right now the team would fall apart.

Totally agree - with a healthy O-line, I expect the Saunders offense to take off next season. I'm hoping that Jason Campbell eliminates any doubt of a QB controversy with great play from day one next year.

Honestly he needs to stay ,he's in the HOF for a reason if anything you need to dump Vinny and Danny.

Re: Should Gibbs stay or go?

I am one who believes in continuity. I have not been a big Gibbs supporter through the season winning or losing and have said multiple times he should step down. However, after listening to the players and how much they fight for Joe is kinda hard to call for him to step down. He has definately got this team to be a "family" and that is hard to do in the todays NFL. I am kinda mixed on this, if he stays good, if he goes we'll be ok too.

Re: Should Gibbs stay or go?

Coach should stay til the duration of his contract and bow out, hopefully a winner. I hope he stays longer as long as he can get the team going. To be honest I question if he can. Sure he got us hot in December as usual, but was that mostly on the emotion of the ST tragedy or not? We got our asses handed to us yesterday in the last 12 minutes of the game after staging a temporary comeback. Also, we have to honestly evaluate the entire season. WE had some great moments throughout the season, but with the exception of December, came up short most of the time. Some of the early wins were sort of ugly also. We have a good team, but their execution was rather lacking on the offensive side of the ball. Not sure if coach can correct that. All I know is we need to draft some good O linemen. Also we might need to look at another qb if we dump Brunell.

In the context of the entire season, wouldn't you say now that he did a great job all year (minus the TO vs Bills but w/ Sean's funeral looming the next day I still say cut some slack for that one). The Pats game was the only game we didn't have a shot of winning in the final minutes. And seeing how the teams that we played finished the year maybe we as fans were too hard on Coach. We had the second toughest schedule in the NFL and still made the playoffs.

I would definitely say he did a good job and I hope he comes back. I'm excited to see what he can do next year. I really thought you were going to the NFC championship game and i was rooting for you. I think you're right about fans being hard on him but i'm sure it was kinda hard not to be disapointed with him after that t/o thing but i just hope he has a great year next year and my Christmas wish would be to see Brett Favre go out on top this year and Joe Gibbs to go out on top next year.

Re: Should Gibbs stay or go?

As a H.S. coach, you hate to see a coach whose style you admire make critical mental mistakes, but it is how they respond afterward that shows their true mark on the team. Considering what the "experts" predicted out of this team and what the Skins were actually able to accomplish is because of the coaching. I get sick and tired of people talking how the come back coaches can't deal with the new NFL. Gibbs is showing he can adjust to the new NFL. That being said, when it is time to bring in a new coach, whether it be Williams or a young coach, I hope they will have the ability to put the coaching staff together that fits their system
