Good guy, but time to hang it up. And, I don't remember who said it, but we do not need to bring him back here. I think our special teams is just fine without him. We don't need to spend a bunch of money on a guy to play special teams again. Good luck finding a new team, Archuleta.

Archuleta is not a starting caliber safety, but he's still a serviceable backup. I would guess that Chicago cut Arch for two reasons (1) he isn't a starter and (2) he was being paid like a starter. My guess is he lands somewhere as a #2 SS at the vet. min.

Arch is one of my top suspects as a player who was on the juice until he got his big contract and then figured why chance it and stopped sprinkling HGH in his scrambled eggs. Just a hunch, but can anyone else explain why he went from very fast when he was drafted all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum of being too slow to be a full time starter?

I think Archuleta had decent speed, he just wasn't very agile and his read and react cover skills were less than spectacular. Remember when Witten burned him in 2006 at FedEx in the closing seconds of the game? Archuleta bit on a move, got spun around and couldn't catch up to Witten. I think it's safe to say Arch is faster than Witten, but Witten just juked his ass and got by him.

I thought he had a back injury or back problems before we got him.

Re: Bears cut Adam Archuleta

Arch's problem his entire career has been speed, or lack thereof. He's constantly getting burned and always has been. He shoulda swallowed his pride, bulked up a bit, and played OLB. I think this way he would have had a lot more success in this league.

The funny thing is the Bears cut him to make room for the next Archuleta, S Craig Steltz from LSU.

that's true. i really don't know what the bears are doing. i scratched my head at just about every draft pick they made. it's hard to knock them, being that they just went to the superbowl 2 years ago with virtually the same team they had this past season. but they seem like the raiders after they lost the big game to the bucs. like they over-achieved and now they can't remember how.

See that is what some people think, but it's just not the case. Archuleta ran a 4.37 at his pro day and did 32 reps at 225 at the combine. He literaly blew people away and went from a third round projection to a first round pick. Arch ran around a 4.4 several other times. That is crazy fast for a safety(Laron Landry ran a 4.35 and is considered the fastest safety in the league). It seems that Archuleta left all his speed in St Louis becasue when he got here he looked slow. What's up with that is what I've been saying ever since I saw him in a Redskin or Bears uniform. How can one account for such a dramatic dropoff?

Here is a link for Arch's pro day and combine results.

Well, regardless of his combine numbers, it IS the case. The guy has never been a very good safety. 40 yard dash speed doesn't necessarily translate to football speed. Maybe his lateral speed isn't good. Maybe he isn't as fast in pads. Maybe he has poor reaction time to passes or isn't good at reading the QB. Any way you slice it, he ALWAYS seemed two steps behind every stinkin pass play. So his despite fancy combine numbers, speed is his problem.

I seem to remember everyone raving about his workout prowess when we signed him (me included). That prowess never translated to success on Sunday's for him.

Re: Bears cut Adam Archuleta

I don't think AA was juicing. He was on a pretty extreme workout routine since high school. His back injury is probably what slowed him down more than anything, and it's not like he was any sort of track star to begin with. He was always more of an 'in the box' type of safety.

I feel bad for him, his career has taken a turn for the worse.

Sorry - I don't hate the guy, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who was paid a gazillion dollars to sit on the bench and rats out his coaches to the media. I had hoped he would do well for us - but he really was just a big wussy douche (with millions of dollars and a super hot girlfriend - didn't this guy listen to Flock of Seagulls to psych himself up on game day?)

Cry me a river.
