Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
god man .. i hardly post ... but it's so aggrevating when this site gets bombarded with such crazy talk .. are we not all real football fans here ?? cause i think that most people get it .. they get that JC is young, learning yet another system, has the ability to make all the throws, move with his legs, etc ... this guy can lead .. look at Auburn ? we hit a funk this season .. i think the strides will continue ... patient fans understand .. what if we did get in the playoffs ?? you really think were ready ?? i look forward to Zorno XXX Part 2 ... it's gonna get buck nasty in 09' .. Offense will finally catch up to Defense .. we get over the hump and win 12 games and host a playoff game .. we are heading in the right direction .. hail =

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
I want to believe in Campbell, but simply put, he's not getting the job done. Is it the line? The play call? The o-line? I don't know, and I'll readily admit there is too much I don't to call for his job, but I get frustrated at his conservatism. Too many times throughout a game, he is given plenty of time to throw, a good 2 and a half seconds in the pocket, and he won't pull the trigger, and we go three and out. Would I rather he hold the ball than thrown an INT? Of course. But once in a while, I'd rather he'd risk an INT than accept a three and out, because the former has much greater potential for pay-off.
Today he averaged 4.4 yards per attempt. That's horrific. I don't want to kick him around, I really like the guy, but I can't believe that he can take the Redskins to the next level. |

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
I am a JC supporter and am willing to be patient to see if he can develop. He really hasn't been given a true opportunity to show how good (or bad) he can be his whole career. That being said, I agree with the previous comments stating that he is probably going to a "average" QB at best in this league. His upside is that he rarely turns the ball over (which I think we take for granted)... but that also is indirectly his downside. He seems like he never wants to make a mistake, and will rarely throw to a receiver unless they are wide open. I think that is why he holds on to the ball way too long on plays that take more time to develope.
I think he has the physical tools to suceed, he just plays "not to lose" instead of playing to win (if that makes sense). Who knows, maybe once he gets comfortable in the offense things will change and he will be more aggressive. At the same time our rookie recievers HAVE TO step up and become legit #1 and #2 receivers.... I LOVE Moss but he is not a true #1. He is phenomal talent just lacks size. Overall we just lack explosive playmakers on offense and that make JC continually have to make the "perfect" throws he doesn't seem to be comfortable throwing. |

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
Campbell will be just fine in the offense given time. I recall Hasselbeck being so awful his first year with Zorn/Holmgren that he was benched in favor of Trent Dilfer. Campbell has been an average QB, which is decent considering this is his first year running this offense. I look for him to take a big step in this offense if we improve the offensive line during the offseason.

BRAVO and you cut to the real issue here. Until we shore up our lines it does not matter who our QB is they are going to get pounded. If we are going to start fixing this team then it has to start with our lines. Enough of this QB, WR crap lets fix the lines otherwise we will be going through this same talk this time next year. |

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
Campbell just doesn't seem to let it loose. He doesn't seem to trust himself/his playmakers yet. He seems to lack that star QB mojo. But he keeps mistakes to a minimum. So at least he isn't a turnover machine like a lot of QBs.
So right now he's a serviceable, middle of the pack QB. He still has some upside and is young. He obviously has been handcuffed by below average pass protection, another new offensive system, and a lack of quick strike weapons (sans Moss). I'm for giving him another year in this system. If he improves next year--sign him to an extension. If he doesn't--then all you fans will get what you want in 2010 when we have a WCO journeyman/Brennan as our QB. |

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
He's done a lot of good things this year that I think people often overlook. His completion % is up, his QB rating is up, fumbles down, INTs down. Zorn helped turn Hasselbeck into a star QB but it wasn't until year 3 when he really took off.
JC hasn't played himself out of the starting job. Not even close. |

Re: Despite win Campbell must go !!!!
Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis were both highly productive in the first half of the season. They were so productive, in fact, that they were talked about as MVP candidates. In the latter half of the season, Jason has struggled to move the ball through the air and Portis has struggled to move it on the ground. Yet, for some reason, Campbell gets pooped on by the fans, but Portis doesn't. Anyone who loves Portis and dislikes Campbell care to explain?

Portis has proven that he can be a consistently good player in this league, relative to other RB's, I don't think Campbell has proven that yet. Sure, Campbell and Portis have both fallen off in the second half, but I think Portis' injuries are the main reason for his dropoff, for Campbell I just think it's a mixture of bad o-line play, and poor fundamentals. |
