IRVING - It may one day be remembered as running back ReShard Lee's drive to significance.

It started with a 62-yard kickoff return, followed by four consecutive carries to the end zone and a touchdown dance that was as much about being thankful for a long-awaited opportunity as it was about paying homage to his beloved fraternity of Omega Psi Phi.

Lee's performance against the Minnesota Vikings, arguably one of the few bright spots in a 35-17 loss, earned him a chance to get a few more opportunities to run the ball in the Cowboys' running back-by-committee approach.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said the first-year player from Middle Tennessee State has been coming on since training camp and will get a bigger role, starting Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Eddie George will likely remain the starter, and although rookie second-round pick Julius Jones could be ready to return after sitting out the season opener against the Vikings, Parcells said Lee has earned the right to carry the ball, too.

"He's starting to improve as a player," Parcells said. "He made a couple of plays in the game last week and in the preseason. Hopefully, we can use him in a role. It's not going to be a full-time role. He's not ready for that."

Lee gave hope to what had been a plodding rushing attack and provided fodder for Monday morning quarterbacks across Fort Worth-Dallas to second-guess Parcells. After the kickoff return, Lee rushed four consecutive times for 31 yards, capping the drive with a 7-yard burst to the end zone. He didn't play again until the waning moments of the fourth quarter because the Cowboys went to a spread offense with Richie Anderson as the lone running back.

But don't count Lee among Parcells' second-guessers.

"They gave me the ball, I had my opportunity, and I didn't let them down," said Lee, who played last week with a bruised shoulder and a broken thumb. "With coach Parcells, you have to prove yourself on more than one occasion. I just want to prove that I can make plays consistently every week."

your O isn't bad, but the running game is on life support right now... i honestly think the giants will probably put more yards on us, even with their crap O-line... mainly because tiki is a running threat, something dallas just doesn't have right now.

I REALLY don't understand why the giants let collins go, as well as not trying hard for garcia (who, unlike warner, is still in his prime and isn't horribly afraid to be on the field)

Collins release was strictly a cap move...they saved 7 mil by releasing him. He was approached by Giants GM Ernie Accorsi about taking a reduction in pay by Collins refused

Then they go out and sign a punch drunk fighter with a glass right hand in Warner...who after last week has lost his last 9 starts.

Our running game isnt on life support...Jones has torn rib cartiledge and missed the last preseason game and opening day

And to be honest, even if JJ had played Sunday it wouldnt have mattered...we still lose

The reason Lee hasnt played much and JJ wont either is not because of their running ability..its their lack of experience in pass protection in nickel sets--Parcells has said as much in this weeks PC's

One missed assignment by either Lee or JJ and its time to start looking forward to the '05 draft and our 2 first round picks--which both will be early if VT gets hurt early and Buffalo continues to stink it up

Thats why Eddie (the thief) George and Richie Anderson get the bulk of the snaps.

The changing of the guard to our younger RB's comes as soon as Parcells is satisfied with their pass protection prowess

And if Vinny is healthy when this occurs, this offense will be the best we've seen in nearly a decade

their defense will continue to give up big points and they will continue to not use their running backs. George will get the start and first shot at scoring. I want George to prove himself becuase I also have him. And I never thought Jones was the anwser for dallas, they should have taken jackson.

All I am going to say is that our D must be pretty good!!! We had 7,seven,7 turnovers, not 2 or 3 but 7 and somehow we only lost by 6points!?!? Our D is the reason they should have destroyed us by more than 6 points and heck if Brunell didnt throw that INT that they ran back for a td we win the game. Yes our O has its work cut out for them but our D is for real you will see!!!!
