Re: Super Bowl in London in 2014?
I have never liked the rule that the SB has to be played in a warm weather city. Some of the most historic games in NFL history have been played in challenging weather. I understand that it can make the logistics more difficult, but, damn, ain't that why these TV execs make the big bucks? Think of all the memorable conference championship games played in inclimate weather. Yes, the game will be sloppy. Yes, it will probably lack firepower. That doesn't mean it will lack drama and, in fact, it may even heighten the drama.

What a horrible awful idea. And what about the time difference? I doubt this will happen.

Re: Super Bowl in London in 2014?
I think it's time the NFL build a SUPER BOWL STADIUM. Which ever state gets it, they can use it for their own purposes, but the sole existance of the stadium is to host the Super Bowl. The walls can have the history of the game, and no matter what, it will always be neutral and in the USA. I orginally thought that Hawaii should get it every year, but they already get the pro bowl, and their stadium is too small. I'd still go for this, but they need to renovate the stadium.

Re: Super Bowl in London in 2014?
No it wouldn't, cause the LEAGUE would own the stadium, so every super bowl would bring in BIG bucks. I get that cities bid millions, and that is a good answer as to why not, but I would wager that the NFL would gain more money if they owned the stadium.

The weather sucks in London that time of year. May as well play right here in DC in our our 90K+ seat stadium since the weather won't be any worse.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the revenue the NFL would get from other teams playing in their stadium throughout the year. (whether it be college, high school or whatever)

Re: Super Bowl in London in 2014?
It is a gimmick to try to further make in roads in Europe with American football as the American market is sooner or later going to collapse, but it is going to backfire probably as Europe is in the same economic boat. England is going down the shitter faster than we are. It is going the way of Iceland. Nobody in jolly ole England is going to even think about buying a ticket, let alone care enough to even want to think about buying a $2000 ticket. If they were going to do a foreign SB, they should do it in Asia, where the money is going to be. Europe is on the precipice of 3rd world status soon!!!!

What they need to do is have the SB in Hawaii, a neutral site, gorgeous weather. Sure the average fan will have trouble seeing it, but the average fan is going to be priced out of seeing a team's home games by 2014. |
