And I do agree with chickenmonkey, we need to throw downfield much more often than we did last year. The last deep completion I remember is the one to Moss in Week 2! You gotta at least try it to stretch the damn field!
Um, huh? He had a nice grab for a first down last night in limited action.

Also, last season he set a career high with 83 catches, which led the entire team.

Size had nothing to do with it other than Joey T talking about it (incorrectly). His ass was getting beat. He got run off routes and out of position terribly multiple times. His size had nothing to do with it. The slants he never covered were because he got too far off the WR. If he is so fast he ought to be on WR like glue.

There are plenty of guys Tryon's size who are good players in this league. Size isn't the problem.

Yup. Tryon was just getting smoked. Out of position, out played and out of a job.

Sounds like a lot might actually be riding on Barnes' development. At least 3 cb's will get a lot of playing time & no doubt there will be games when at least 1 of the top 3 is out. Even if he makes the team, at this rate Tryon would be #5 on the depth chart.

The score was disappointing but here's a little perspective. After all, it's only one game.

For those of you keeping score, the NFC teams went 0-4 last night.

Tryon needs to line up further inside to take away the slant - that was his achilles heel all night. It's one thing when a WR is afraid to go across the middle, but a nickle corner who doesn't cover the middle of the field won't be employed very long.

You are correct. He also needs to be more physical.

Dude, Cooley led the team in receptions last year. Not trying to pick on you but if he didn't get any chatches last nihgt I wouldn't worry. He will get plenty when it starts to count.

Portis got zero yards last night! ZERO! WTF man! We'll never be preseason champs like this!

Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down

I didn't watch much of the game because living here in SC I already know the outcome. I did like what I saw from RAK! Our D will be fine when we have all our guys in there. Instead of the mix and match units that were on the field last night.

1st team Oline looked decent for game one. Not the firestorm of blitzing Ravens I was suspecting. There were some good things done.

I agree with SS when I don't like the fact that we only left Jason in the game for 2 series. I posted before in another thread that I would like to see us get some Offensive confidence in the Preseason. With the guy only playing 2 series against one of the best Ds in football, it seems as though it was a missed opportunity for the offense to get some work in on somebady other than the Skins D.

The throw to Hagans was too high, but not a bad pass. The Ravens were playing Zone and an LB dropped into a flats zone, so campbell needed height on the ball to get it over the defender. Also Hagans is 5.8 so a tough situation for JC.
It seemed to take JC forever to figure out Hagans was wide open on the sideline, and then the throw was high and off-rhythm (Hagans was standing there waiting for the ball to arrive vs. catching it in stride). I was at the game and then watched it on tv today. At the game, you could clearly see that no one was anywhere near Hagans. It wasn't as apparent on the broadcast.

On the pass to ARE in the seam, DT was streaking down the sideline in single coverage and could have made a big play, but JC seemed locked in on ARE. He also badly overthrew DT on a basic out pattern and held onto the ball too long on a 3rd down play where he was under pressure.

I know it's just a meaningless pre-season game, and I'm by no means hitting the panic button, but I'm a little surprised JC isn't taking more heat for his performance last night. Most of the commentators I've heard say they thought he looked good. I just don't agree, and think Flacco looked way better.
