Too bad about us having to let one of the young RB's go, it is just as bad as having to let Chase or Colt go.
Campbell's career numbers are pretty much in line with what he did yesterday. Cooley's 73 yard play was the difference in making his YPA look good, possibly inflated, but given the fact that he has looked like that his whole career, I'd imagine it's totally sustainable.

The big difference is that it's a performance that came against New England, and Campbell usually doesn't tend to go off like that against the top defenses. So in that respect, it's a step in the right direction.

But it's still preseason, and it doesn't matter until he does that against the Giants, who figure to be even better on defense than the Pats.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Preseason Week 3)

I guess what I'm saying is that the people who felt Campbell has worn out his welcome here probably weren't all that impressed by how he did yesterday. He failed to convert some third and shorts, and didn't find Moss on that one deep pass, so there was enough there for those who are drinking the hater-ade to feel confident in their assessment.

For those who have never doubted Campbell, it seems sort of ridiculous after a 209 yd day in 22 attempts, but for the people who never thought he should have been drafted, you can imagine how yesterday did little to change that opinion.

Preconceived notions are powerful things.

But it's time to lay the smack down

Penalties Even in some were questionable, we just can't have that many penalties. Plain and simple

Those here that rushed to trade, cut, vilify Jason Campbell after last week Was this the real Campbell or was it last week's Campbell? Maybe somewhere in the middle, though leaning toward last night's version. Still, it just goes to show what he's capable of and why he can be the difference between .500 and playoffs.

Those here that had doubts about Mitchell beyond his ability to catch fade routes Looking squarely at myself here. First of all, if all he does is catch fades and stop and go's, that'd be just fine. 5 years from now Berman will be saying "Marko 'Polo' Mitchell...all he does is," and then Tom Jackson will interject "catch touchdowns." But seriously, what most impressed me last night about Marko. And arguably my favorite play of the night was Mitchell's impressive blocking downfield on the Cooley catch. Way to do the little things

Colt Brennan My quest to get Chase Daniel on the team took one step closer to reality! Seriously though, I'd still keep Colt and develop him. But damn!

Wasting short fields We have to take better advantage of turnovers our defense gives us

Shaun Suisham This is one of the biggest reasons you have competition this summer. I know it was a a 51-yarder, but you have to make those. Especially when your job is on the line.
Last night it finally looked like he just was playing and not thinking.

I honestly don't think anyone is going to be lining up to add Colt to their active roster. Pass him through waivers and slip him onto the practice squad, and he might be back on the 53-man roster in 2010.

How long do you all think Marko Mitchell would last if we went crazy and put him on the practice squad? Make them have no choice but to play you Lanky!

The defense didn't really play that well. Letting Springs go may have been a bad decision, but he wouldn't budge on restructuring his contract last year. What impressed me most about previous Redskins teams was the fact that guys would almost line up to restructure their contracts if it would help the team.

Just hope they give Chase some big time against the Jags. I think it would be wrong to just dump the guy onto the practice squad and maybe lose him. JC is the man, but Collins isn't going to last more than another season or two tops.

Agreed. Colt is not a commodity.

He is already better then Jordan Palmer, Dennis Dixon, Kyle Boller, Alex Smith to name a few. I bet he wouldn't make it one day if he was released. You gotta keep Colt, if we cut him whose going to make videos with Chris Cooley?

He also is not better than Graham Harrell, who is in the CFL.

I'm surprised that no one picked up Harrell just for camp fodder.

Harrell was more of a system QB then a pure passer.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Preseason Week 3)

Wow, I have not gotten past the first page. Between last week and this week I've heard nothing but positives about Marcus Mason. Hmmm, not to toote my own horn but....I told you so Where are all the "He won't make it in this league," "He can't pass block," " He's only good against second stringers" people?

Shhhhhhhhhhhh. You don't have to say a word.

I should make my list again:

QB; JC, Colt, Chase.
RB; Portis, Mason, Alridge or Dorsey.
WR; Moss, Kelly, ARE, Thomas, Mitchell.

I'd keep Wilson and find someone else to let go.
Let Westbrooke and Tryon go unless we need them.

I said it once and will say it again. ..Colt is a good QB if you are looking for someone like a Bret Favre. Somoeone who will take chances with the ball down the field but will also have interceptions.

Honestly though I'm glad Mason is stepping up finally. also like the speed backs we have. With one of them and Thomas being able to KR/PR Rock is expendable and now maybe Betts also. I like Betts but if we are looking for Portis's replacement for the future, someone he can help develope then I think Mason is it.

Colt doesn't have the arm to be worth called anything close to Favre or 'like Brett Favre'.
