Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
So where's that guy who pulled the race card?

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
Vick is a bad guy...bad character..like defective. He is also a very talented athlete. Prison won't change a flawed character. But it may make him NOT want to repeat similar offenses so he won't have to go back.

From a pure football perspective (and that's all that really matters here) I agree 100% with Reid's decision.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
I don't know but I think this makes them a better team and was the only logical decision. I mean did anyone see the ineptitude that was Kevin Kolb vs Green Bay? Vick played pretty damn well against the GB defense and they're not slouches. Last week was against Detroit, an improving team, and he put up plus 30 pts. I can't stand him because of his past but you have to admit Vick at qb makes Philly a stronger team right now. I think Reid going with Kolb could have cost him the locker room.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
Without knowing Micheal Vick personally before or after he entered prison I cannot speak to jail reforming him.
What I can agree with you on is that he seems to be taking his professional career much more serious, but at the same time only time will tell if the lessons he learned while he was in prison will have a lasting effect on him or if he will revert back to what was percieved to be a pompous, arrogant, and above the law asshole that he used to be. It will be interesting to see what happens to MV if he does do well this year, becuase we all know that some team out there will reward him with a another decent size contract. Remember all of you, Micheal is in a contract year. Time will tell how serious he is about his career.

Vick is clearly back to his old self and the scary thing is he might be even better than he was. And he has plenty of weapons.

I agree, anyone who takes joy in killing innocent animals would qualify as having a questionable character. I wouldn't stop at dogs however, I would extend that assement to those who hunt for sport also.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
I wasn't even talking about the legal issues, which to me are irrelevant to Vick the football player...I'm talking about a guy who never had to work for anything on the football field (and never did). He relied on his genetic talent to cruise into a lucrative pro career. When that got taken away, I think he woke up to the reality that he's going to have to work at football from here on out.
His skills combined with a desire to better himself on the football field should scare any opposing defense. Plus, not playing for the last couple years means his football age is only like 27 from a wear and tear standpoint. Only time will tell I suppose... |

I don't know right now who plays the Eagles next, but it will be interested to see Vick going against a good team that has the chance to gameplan against him and see some tape on his play. Still, a Stafford-less Lions put up a fight against the Eagles. I get the feeling that there may be some internal conflict over this situation. This was supposed to be Kolb's team, but I'm sure someone (either Reid or the FO) made the case for Vick (which is not hard to do given the results.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
Another perspective to look at this from is what the Eagles plan to do down the road. Sure Vick looks pretty good right now (albeit against the Lions), but do the eagles really look at Vick as their quarterback of the future? Is this a situation where Andy Reid's hand is being forced to start Vick, and as soon as he messes up, it's Kolb's team again?
From a management perspective, I would try and get my young quarterback as many games under his belt as possible. Yeah he looked pretty bad the first game, but can you really judge a quarterback on one game against a pretty good defense? Control of the locker room notwithstanding, I would start Kolb until midseason, and if he still isn't cutting it, THEN put Vick in. It's nice to know Vick's a capable backup, and potential starter, but you have to give the guy you've invested so much time and money in a chance to be what you drafted him to be - your franchise quarterback. |

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
I've rooted for Vick every since I was younger going to see him in Lane Stadium and I've said since the start of his release from prison that he deserves another shot at being a starting QB in this league. I'm not saying this guy made the best decisions in life but I think everyone needs to realize that he did do his time, he admitted his mistakes, and hasn't done anything recently except shut his mouth and let his playing do the talking. And I don't condone dog killings at all.. I have a dog also but him growing up where he did and seeing what I bet none of us on this board ever would have to witness growing up I doubt it was that easy to walk away from a culture that was burned into him as a child.. just saying.
