Whatever you want to call it, I'm sure there aren't many teams out there that got more production last year from their TEs.

The Redskins lead the league in passing attempts. Cooley had a bad year overall, but I think he set a career high in receptions (maybe yards too?). It is what it is.

I don't think any team in the NFL is as deep 1-3 as the Redskins at TE, except perhaps the Titans, and they don't really have a clear number one. And the 2 TE formations were clearly up from 2008-2009. Problem is, it's a running formation for this Redskins team. That's not such a bad thing, IMO, but you could do exactly what we currently do with Davis and Logan Paulsen as the top two TEs, and have no production dropoff. Davis just steps into Cooley's role as the focal point of the passing attack, and the no. 2 TE remains largely ignored and gets pulled on third downs.

Which is really the biggest point of all. We could trade one or the other and still have a really good TE situation. But we're missing the obvious opportunity to excel at the position because of some weird ratio of attempts we're trying to have between Cooley and Davis.

I think it's patently ridiculous that no offensive mind has figured out how to use two TEs at the same time to maximize the talent on our roster, but I just don't see it being any different this year.
I don't know of any team that truly features two TE's. I can only think of NE that use a lot of 2 TE sets. It'd be nice to have them both on the field a little more, especially on 1st down. However in obvious passing situations, I'm not sure having both on the field would work.

I agree. Gotta keep Cooley.

Just because we actually have really good depth at one position is reason to get rid of one of the players? TE is always an area where you can use multiple guys on the field at the same time. Unless some other team makes a big trade offer for a high need area and wants Cooley I see no reason the Redskins should voluntarily try to trade him just for S&G's.

The reason for the "trade Cooley" cries is like any good business. You buy low, and sell high. The Patriots are the best at this. I think they are probably the only team that could get Randy Moss for a 4th rounder and turn around 2 years later and get a 3rd out of him. Seymour near the end of his career? Still got a first for him. That's smart business and it sets yourself up for the future. It's not about the move you make today, it's about the move you are going to make in 3 years.

COOLEY is our Franchise TE. Great locker room guy. Hes staying. Your crazy.

THIS TEAM NEEDS TALENT. We need to hold our best players... and add more talent. Bottom line.

After one year? Haven't we learned anything? He didn't even play the full season at that level either.

You going to sign Asomugha instead? Good luck.

Absolutely not. Not even sure where you got that rediculious idea from. You sure haven't seen me say anything in regards to Asomugha.

Well... It sounded to me as if you were in disagreement with Matty's statement about locking up LL. So therefore... I ass-umed if you did not wish to retain LL that another FA CB would be on your list. And voila, I give you Asomugha, the likely highest valued CB to go on the market. Purhaps my dots are a bit disconnected from your intended meaning originally, I blame it on the internet.

LL is a baller, not worried about him flopping.

I have one jersey and it's a Cooley jersey.

Therefore we are not trading #47.

End of discussion.

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout

Landry and Fred Davis (but out of his own self interest its probably the right move for him not to sign it)

I would extend Fletch for 2 years and hopefully we'll find or he'll groom someone to take his place.

I'd extend Carriker and re-sign Doughty on the cheap.
I have to look at Barnes number but I depending on what year he's in I'd sign him on the cheap too same with any players that might see an increase in playing time where they could play their way into a big number down the line.

Yes, I'm a cheap bastard.
