Gaffney is the real deal. He made our offense much better and likely will continue to do so. He could have had an even better day if some passes had been more accurate.

Fred Davis: monster day. Ran good routes, made tough catches, broke tackles.

Neild and Kerrigan: what excellent beginnings!

Josh Wilson: very happy we have him. You heard little from him and that speaks volumes about how well he was doing his job.

Fletch: only God is more omnipresent

All this hate for doughty. I like him as depth. good strong safety. Might not be the best in coverage, but good tackler and a natural football player. Seems to understand the game well. LL is one of my top two favorite redskins. But the reason I love him is his greatest downfall, him going 100% on every play. I doubt even after he comes back, he'll stay healthy. Get used to doughty. I'm not too down on him as a second strong safety, things could be worse.

I also wanna say how upset I am at Jenkins's injury. I thought he was gonna be an absolute stud. I'm still not sold on our D-line depth. I feel in today's nfl depth is the most important part of football (besides qb of course). Look at the packers, their receivers aren't all top tier, but their receiving depth makes them incredible, it doesn't matter who is on the field, they can get the job done. I am optimistic about the redskins, but would be SIGNIFICANTLY more so if Jenkins were around. I know its only one player, but one loss makes a big impact imo.

Re: Scud's Studs Week 1 (Giants at Redskins)

sorry for the tripple post, but i have a question. Everyone is saying how good neild played. I unfortunately didn't get to see the whole game. He didn't impress in pre-season, so it strikes me as odd that his stats came out to two sacks. I'm not sold on him yet. I'm thinking odds are the giants o-line is deteriorating and neild was also the benefactor of other players creating opportunities for him (like maybe orakpo put pressure on manning and flushed him into neild).

Can anyone who studies the tape tell me if neild actually had good push or good penetration on a CONSISTANT basis? If we can rely on him to be a positive contributor?

Ive seen the game twice, and while he didnt pressure on every play, he did get considerable push most of the time, Id say even more than Cofield did. He hurried Manning quite a bit and looked alot more solid than we have had in the past. In short he doesnt get pushed around, and has chances to impose his will on o0pposing lineman.

You guys have covered the studs of today pretty well, so I'm just gonna add this tidbit. Today marks the 2nd consecutive home opener I've attended in which our team scored a defensive touchdown while I was in line waiting for food. My new superstition? Yessir.

Also, props to Hightower for running down the Giants player that picked up the fumble and taking him down.

Seriously. When that happened I had shades of Ndamukong Suh. If they had gotten points off that drive we could've been looking at an entirely different outcome.

Re: Scud's Studs Week 1 (Giants at Redskins)

I'm adding one.

Jim Haslett has now made awesome halftime adjustments three straight times against the Giants. The only difference was that we weren't down by a touchdown plus at the half in a way so that the damage was already done. We played them even for a half, then blew them off the field in the second half. Eli Manning is a very good player who flat out struggled to move the ball in the second half. For the third consecutive game against us.

If not for the offense in the first half, we're not even in it, but the defense won the game in the second half.

X2. Held them scoreless in the 2nd half and 1/10 on 3rd down. Great job there by Haslett.

Even Rocky McIntosh had more positive plays than negative plays. I'm not exactly raising expectations for him, but it was good to see him get that fourth down defeat.

Nice insight Gtripp.

He also blew up a screen by himself. Props to dhall. Good game all around. Here's to hoping he continues this consistently.
