Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather

I'm waiting on the first person to justify this signing as being an upgrade on Landry. So I can laugh at them.

Well hes not as good as landry, but if landry is on IR for some team and Meriweather is out starting for us, it is definitely an upgrade.

I personally think this is a lateral move more than anything. Is he a upgrade? No. Is he a downgrade? No. He's been benched twice now for stuff that LL does repeatedly. What he isn't though is injured. LL on the other hand is.

Bears to bench safeties Harris, Meriweather - Chicago Tribune

Meriweather played a bit reckless throughout the game, opting for big hits rather than wrapping up for the tackle. The former New England Patriot seems to be having a tough time adjusting to a new defensive system.

we get that you never liked Laron Landry. Stll, Landry always plays hard, while Meriweather is known to take plays off.

I think it's that last part that the Redskins think they can scare out of him. And to that I say: best of luck to them.

Like has nothing to do with it. LL has the physical ability to be the best safety have ever played this game. What did Ed Reed do when he first came into the league? He spent a many of nights over at Ray Lewis house watching film and learning. Have we heard anything of the sort from LL? All we hear from LL is how he's getting his swole on at the gym. He plays the position with no discipline (much like Meriweather) and fancies the big hits instead of the sound tackling. It doesn't help when you get up and start flexing after you just gave up a 25 yard first down either. /facepalm

Like has nothing to do with it.

Anyone is better than someone that can't stay on the field. That's just common sense.

No chance he's better than LL

Landry who?
He missed 16 games in the last three years.
All Meriweather has to do is show up in pads and its an instant upgrade.

Exactly!! Can almost say the same for Atogwe. I mean if anything safety play should be better this year than last but we still need to add another.

its kinda tough to compare being that Laron hasnt played consistently on the field the last 2 years. I dont this is a situation where you can compare. If Laron is 100% healthy, its no comparison, Laron is a better player.

We can compare Landry the last two years to Meriweather the last two years just how they were and still conclude that Landry was worth about $5 million more per year than Meriweather signed for.

He does'nt have an achillies injury that will keep him from playing the rest of his career. Also, he probably came real cheap.

He also doesn't have to worry about diseases from monkey bites.

That's who he is. I don't think I've ever seen him happy about the team. We have a tiny core of inhouse pessimists and he's one of them. I am not sure how anyone who never actually roots for a team can consider themselves a fan of the team. They write long-winded posts trying to prove themselves right instead of joining in on the online tailgating party that brings us all here together.
