I guess I would say Burress. But one guy I really think we should take a look at is Derrick Mason, if he becomes a cap casualty as expected.

the eagles like using westbrook i think. THey have always used their hb to run screens. I never knew Staley could run until this year. If they go and get porter, and have that tandom or receivers....look out.
I hope the NFC East gets back to its glory years of us all being tough instead of just the eagles every year

I think they could make use of two backs, Westbrook as more of the change of pace/3rd down guy and someone who can grind out some tough yards between the tackles like what Dillon did for the Pats this year. Not that I want to see this happen, LOL, but if it does the Eagles will be damn scary. Imagine someone like Shaun Alexander in the backfield.

Re: Jerry Porter will test free agent waters
What about Buckhalter. He was injured but he has that between the tackle type mentallity. The Eagles were definitely a passing team in the red zone, I think that a big time running back would make them truly scary on offense - however, if I were going after a big name, I'd go for a #2 WR.
I think the Seahawks will let Hasselbeck go before Alexander. |

and edge is headed to miami, even though I think they should go after hasselback and draft cadillac williams. this is probably going to be one of the more interesting offseason's in the past few years to watch. |

Re: Jerry Porter will test free agent waters
Buckhalter has some serious durability issues, he's missed two of the last three seasons with knee injuries. I'm thinking the Eagles may look to move on to someone more reliable.

Re: Jerry Porter will test free agent waters
plus don't the eagles have to resign westbrook first before talk of a 2-headed rb attack gets too serious? even though as long as they have a healthy Mcnugget as qb, they'll always have a 2 serious running threats.

Re: Jerry Porter will test free agent waters
The ESPN Insider reports on Burress and Porter suggest players that just are not the professionals that we need on our team - or young players that are open to being molded.
Burress' immaturity would be a problem we can ill afford to have, and Porter's lack of polish in combination with the price tag of a contract for him make him someone we don't need on our team in my view. They are both talented players, but I don't think they fit into the Redskin mold. What is the Redskin mold? The "all for one and one for all spirit." That is what we need in our players and if they don't have it or seem readily able to learn it, I don't think they would be a good fit. It's one thing if you have a mature team that has been around awhile with a solid structure, to bring in a player with a difficult attitude. But when you are developing your team like we are, you want guys who provide the kind of spirit a James Thrash does. I don't see that likely happening with Burress or Porter, and the cost of contracts with them just means we should avoid them in my view. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN Insider now has the 2005 Free Agent Profiles up, here's what they have on Burress and Porter. Plaxico Burress Grade: 84 ....However, Burress has not been a consistent "pro", will take plays off and has not become the great red zone threat that he should be. He lacks a great work ethic and does not play hard on every snap, particularly if he is not the primary target. He will display bad body language if things aren't going his way and the look on his face is worth a thousand words. He is not yet a polished route runner and often just gets by with his imposing size and strength. He will drop some passes that he should catch and occasionally turns up field before securing the ball. He is an inconsistent blocker and does not always give great effort in this area and considering his size, he should be a dominant blocker. His physical presence and playmaking ability create some mismatches, but he has not possessed the commitment and focus of the elite receivers in the league. Jerry Porter Grade: 75 However, he isn't a great short-to-intermediate route runner and he still drops some passes that he should catch. His footwork is inconsistent and he doesn't show great doubles moves. He will look upfield before securing the ball at times and he needs to show better focus. Overall, he isn't a sharp route-runner and he is inconsistent but he is a playmaker with excellent natural ability. |
