Im still trying to figure out who decided it was racist, since it wasnt the Indians. The real racist term at that time was "Injun".

200 years ago, people called you by what the color your skin looked with the word skin after it. As much as people joke about whiteskins, thats what whites were called back then. African American/Blacks were called blackskins. Indians (both native american and from India and that part of Asia) were called redskins, and hispanics as well as chinese/japanese/korean ect were called yellowskins.

One thing I have never understood. There were these people that killed Indians at will. A group of people that said beating a 5 year old Indian child to death with the stock of the shotgun was to fun to waste a bullet on them. Yet no one wants to outlaw the sports term... COWBOYS...

It isn't 200 years ago. I think there are many "real" racist terms out there for Native Americans. Also, are you seriously saying (or suggesting) that a team called the blackskins, with an African American person as a mascot, would not be considered racist? C'mon man!

N.B. This has got to be a flame.

I think the people who want these names to disappear are more racist to the Indians than the people who support those names being used. What better way to eliminate any Indian Heritage from the USA then to make sure you hear as little about Indians as you can. So the Kansas City Star can maintain the support for genocide of Indians all they want, it doesnt make them right.

From a person with Cherokee blood running through my veins... and proud of it.
I went on vacation this year to Arizona and was real apprehensive about wearing my redskins hat while there due to the Indian population and reservations.

We stopped at one of the Indian markets on the side of the road one day and saw a couple wearing Redskin hats. Also while driving one day to see a place called four corners, saw a high school on a reservation and their mascot was a Redskin.

I know that none of this makes it right or politically correct.

Words only have the power you give them. Seems like a few select Native Americans choose to make this an issue. The word "choose" was used specifically. Is there any great outcry about this anywhere?

Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style

some one posted a ESPN article that seemed to be a weekly installment of like a "all pro" team. I thought it was kind of neat but can't find the newest addition.

They're done. When they lost Revis you could tell it totally burst Ryan's bubble, and it showed against the 49ers.

If they are smart, they should start McIlroy and see what he can show.

At the same time, probably let's Ryan off the hook this year - he gets to blame any failures on losing Holmes and Revis. Much as I don't like the guy, those are pretty big hits to both sides of the ball. Hard to compensate for that.
