Sounds like the guy has a serious problem with weed, probably should seek some help.

I guess Mike's doghouse ended up being renovated into a grow house. SMOKE IF YOU GOT EM!

Fred is now submitting his application to work in one of the marijuana distribution centers in Colorado.

I don't really care what the rules in the NFL should be. I only care what they are and whether our players follow them. This guy has a clear disregard for the rules, so much so that he's going to do whatever he wants, even if it means letting his teammates down and sitting out games.

Not someone I want on my team. I want someone who understands that availability is the number one ability, and will do whatever it takes to be available, even if it means abiding by the silliest of rules.

GONE.

Well said. This is the concept of responsibility and maturity that the "pot is like jaywalking" crowd around here and in society do not understand.

Your employer has rules. There are also laws to follow.

If you abide by them you have your job and you stay out of legal trouble. If you ignore them because you think you're above them or they're rules you disagree with, prepare for the consequences.

Fred Davis has already gotten many more chances than many of us would have received in our own jobs...a company would probably fire someone who is on drugs, sleeps on the clock and misses as many days as he reports to work. He's blown his chance at having his dream job. I don't understand why so many people want to defend this slacker and screw-up. I guess they just want that type of behavior to be acceptable so they can do the same without being accountable for their actions.

I'm not sure anyone is defending him. I certainly wouldn't defend the bonehead, but I tend to feel like the sleeping on the job is the worse offense then smoking some pot on his own time. I think most others would agree that he is an idiot, but that the rules are useless, and that in some cases (not necessarily this one) it could lead to loosing out on some great talent for something really benign.

We actually want rape, dog killing, and bringing guns to clubs to be acceptable as well - they're all rules so they should be treated the same.

The point is that all rules aren't created equally. He should be punished, but a ban from the game for smoking some pot is a bit much. Someone with the talent of a Fred Davis is a little bit harder to replace in his field of work than many of us are in ours.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye

What a waste of talent -- would folks be inclined to re-sign him at the vet min (which is all he will get from anywhere)? I have to say, I was in favor of seeign what a new coach can do, but I cannot say I trust this guy to make it through a season, and sometimes you just have to move on.

Re: Fred Davis Bye Bye

Some people estimate 50% of players smoke, that's probably on the low side. You have to be pretty dumb to get caught. Pretty sure the tests aren't random, until you get caught that is. Just stop smoking for a few weeks. Not hard.

Naw, that would make way too much sense.
