Really like this move. A true talent evaluator in the position to do just that. Bruce does a good job with the cap, and that is where his focus should lie (as well as being the public face which he is pretty good at). Just glad we have a talent guy who is responsible for acquiring talent and not a cap guy anymore.

A name to temper the optimism: Matt Flynn.

This is a very high risk move, IMO. I don't doubt his ability to do a great job as GM.

What's the risk? Can it actually get worse than it was the past 2 years? I suppose a run of futility like the Jags, Browns, Raiders, Redsk...oh wait a minute.

Seriously, there's not much risk at all...but I'm still in wait and see mode.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Good Read.

Hopefully this will put an end to the quick fix nonsense we see with this team year after year.

NFL Network makes it sound like Scot McCloughan will get free reign to run the scouting department. I really like that he has had success (good track record) and is considered by his peers to be a very good FO person. most of all he is relatively young 42 or so.
We have come a long way from a FO run by Vinny 'bag of doughnuts' Cerratto and Dan Snyder. Now Hazlett is gone. Things are starting to look up.

Uh oh ... It sounds like we are winning off the field.

Be afraid ... be very afraid!

Except this HAD to be done. There wasn't any other choice that wouldn't have incited fan riots.

If you think about it, we're in uncharted territory now -- Schottenheimer, Gibbs and Shanahan all had the dual role of head coach & general manager/player-personnel decider-in-chief. Then you had Spurrier and Zorn being fed with players from Bozo the Clown.

Now there's a guy from the outside with football acumen, and a resume of success at picking out talent.

Dare I say it ... but, ... it's different this time.

Said the cocaine addict.

... and, as your fellow co-dependent Redskins fan and enabler, I nod my head in agreement.

See you in rehab in 2016.

I agree...
The big thing to keep in mind is this will take time. Stay away from the quick fix. Snyder's past as an owner is full of examples of quick fix failures.
We need to let the team building grow over time. Shut the big mouths of the impatient mob.

Can I get a fu*k yeah? Look at us, attempting to be a real professional football team! Now I'm really looking forward to the draft. Find us some winners.

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM

I'm all in for this move. I don't see this being much of a risk at all. It's a better situation than AJ Smith, Bruce Allen, and especially Vinny Cerrato being involved with personnel.
