The dude is JACKED. Love what I'm reading about the Senior Bowl practices too. I worry that if he does well at OLB there (which I think he is) he'll be gone before we pick. If we're taking an LB, that's who I want for sure.

This guy:

Notre Dame center Nick Martin continued his strong week with an impressive practice on Thursday. He had two superb reps to stop Louisiana Tech's Vernon Butler in the one-on-ones. Martin stood up a bull rush as Butler got too high. He kept Butler away from the marker later after some initial penetration. This week has shown that Martin has good technique and should be ready to compete quickly in the NFL.

Like Ive been stating, this years Centers class has some prospects.

Most of the Safety talk out of senior bowl appears to be about 2 players: Jeremy Cash SS and Darian Thompson FS. And I can't wait to watch these guys game cut-ups.

I would be nervous as hell taking a WR or CB if we didn't have Scot. My fears are alleviated a bit with him in charge, but last thing we need is to miss on a first or second round pick while we're still rebuilding. I wouldn't hate ILB, but I think Mason and Compton are more than adequate right now and we can invest the picks elsewhere.

Philosophically, I wouldn't ever worry about success/failure rates. As long as the right process is followed to evaluate, assess and rank then I would always pull the trigger on BPA regardless of position.

When it comes to ILB, I like our guys especially Keenan (when healthy). But in this 1-gap scheme they aren't covered up like they were in Haslett's 2-gap. So instead of run and chase/hit they have to engage-fill-shed much more often then before and they imo they're lack of ability in that style of play shows in our run defense. So if the ILB core remains status quo then we're gonna have to get a lot better up front if there's gonna be improved run D.

For what its worth PFF rated Perry Riley and Will Compton near the bottom of ILB when it comes to run defense. And imo its supported by our run D ranking.

Ragiland looks like the text book 1-gap 34 ILB and has the background in a pro-style defense.

One dude that popped out to me was Sheldon Rankings.
Watching the speed, suddenness and violence of his hand work and overall movement reminded me of JJ Watt attacking the sled with his pass rush moves in the youtube clip below 1st ~30s: . Obviously JJ is on another level. But compared to the other DL at the Senior Bowl Rankings looked more polished in his pass rush to me.





There are some other dudes that stood out to me that i'll get back around too as time passes.

They need more than one DL. And the second round is to early for a center.... sign a FA center to a short term contract, then draft a center in the mid rounds.

South team

He might have been knocked by having small hands, but quarterback Brandon Allen (+1.9) was the best player on the South offense. He completed both passes of 20 yards or further downfield he attempted, and completed four of the five passes he attempted under pressure. For all the negativity surrounding his measurements earlier in the week, Allen was the best quarterback in this game.

For a player who looked so good against the run in 2015, Alabama’s Jarran Reed (+1.6) impressed as a pass rusher in this game. He batted a pass, beat projected first round draft pick Joshua Garnett for a pressure, and showed good speed in chasing down the quarterback for a tackle for short game in pursuit.

Defensive end Shawn Oakman is a polarizing player for many people. Some look at his size and see a player who has the potential to be dominant, but then his play often simply doesn’t live up to that. This game showed a lot of good and bad from him. He registered two sacks and two hurries, including forcing a fumble, but both sacks came when cleaning up pressure originally caused by someone else. He was also pushed around a little too easily by tight ends in the running game.

North team

All four of the North’s quarterbacks had solid performances. Carson Wentz (-0.8) came into the game after a week of hype and, while he didn’t blow anyone away with his performance on Saturday, his lone poor play was displaying some poor ball security which led to a fumble on the sack by defensive end Shawn Oakman. Cody Kessler (+1.4) completed some nice throws for first downs, but didn’t challenge the defense downfield. He completed just one throw of 10 yards or more downfield. Kevin Hogan (+1.4) had just four passes, but completed three of them, while the other was thrown away. Jeff Driskel (+1.6) got the most work as they attempted to mount a comeback, but did his best work on passes between zero and 10 yards downfield, going seven-for-seven on those throws before the last gasp 29 yards hail mary to score as time expired.

The star on the defensive side of the ball for the North team was Notre Dame defensive lineman Sheldon Day (+3.3). He spent most of his time on the edge, though did see eight snaps at defensive tackle, and stood out both as a pass rusher and against the run. Too much for left tackles Le’Raven Clark and Spencer Drango, he was arguably the game’s best player.

Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich (+2.3) impressed us throughout the year, and he stood out against the run in the game. He was exposed in coverage on one occasion, but displayed excellent reactions on running plays, finishing the game with four defensive stops — two more than any other player on the North defense.
