I might be alone in the thought that the DL took a step backwards going from Knighton to Golston and Hatcher to Paea/Reyes. Our interior pass rush was only average last year and Hatcher provided a lot of that rush. Now with the loss of Junior there isn’t anyone to pencil in that is expected to compensate for the loss of rush. DL is going to be key whether or not someone steps up at the NT spot and whether Paea can stay healthy and play like the player we expected when he signed. Baker is solid both in against the run and provides rush, Ricky Jean is a solid run stopper at DE the rest are question marks.
I’m not as high on Compton as most. He filled in decent for a back-up player but that’s exactly how I view a solid back-up. I don’t think he’s stout enough vs the run and imo the run defense was a major issue. Foster can thump and Riley when healthy get’s downhill with aggression.
Agreed.
I feel our DL will be just slightly weaker than last year, even though Knighton wasn't especially astonishing last year, to say the least...

But what I really want to know is when will Riley Jr be back? I'd feel more secure if we could rely on him at ILB cause Foster and Compton did good work there but we don't know how Su'a will adapt.

Re: Redskins Training Camp '16

so much for cautionary:

Cooley: Scot McCloughan punched wall over initial Josh Doctson injury diagnosis - Washington - Scout

Here's the story. McCloughan was interviewed by ESPN 980 radio hosts Chris Cooley and Kevin Sheehan Thursday for a segment that aired Friday, The bandaged hand showed as well.

"He was sitting next to me, his hand was swollen and it was bandaged up and taped together," Cooley said.

The former Redskins tight end, not wanting to create an awkward situation during the interview, waited to ask about the apparent injury when McCloughan exited.

According to Cooley, McCloughan said he received a call from one of the Redskins team doctors informing him that Doctson could be out for the next three months. The timeframe of this conversation was unclear, though Doctson missed most of Washington's offseason workouts in May and June.

Yeah, still noteworthy. Like McC, I get frustrated with injuries.

Rookie wr's seem to be the ones that have the toughest time adjusting to the pro game. He's missing valuable reps that he badly needs.

Perry Riley is one of the more overrated players on the team.

He can't cover and has a really difficult time shedding blocks and getting to the ball.

His collisions with the blockers are just as epic as his steely gaze watching the ball carrier run past him.

Do you all believe he is a lock to make the roster with his cap number?

Perry Riley Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money | Over The Cap

He is making starter money and is likely to be a back up.

The best thing going for Riley to make the team isn't his talent, but rather the lack of experienced depth at the position.

If Riley is not a starter, they will either cut him, or renegotiate his contract.... if he balks, he is gone

You know, I'm looking to see what kind of impact Daniels and Spaight can make in camp. Can they pressure the starters of Compton and Foster? I believe it's a realistic possibility they can. Damn, I can't wait to get down to camp

Honestly... I hadn't check the numbers. Yeah we can agree he's a bit overpaid, especially when you consider he wasn't far better than Foster and Compton. But I remember him making some plays and I feel like we don't have tons of depht at ILB.

Compton and Foster are just journeymen type of players. At some point over a 16 game season they are going to get exposed, especially trying to cover TE's and RB's. Daniels is kind of in the same mold as our starters. We badly need an athlete and a playmaker at ILB. Maybe Spaight turns into that guy. It will also be interesting to see where Cravens lines up.

You're saying it better than me! And I'm not saying Riley JR is THE guy, just that I would feel more comfortable with him healthy, more depth, more choice, more competition between the players etc...

I agree that we don't have any playmakers at ILB, and imo its a major part of struggles in run defense.
In my eyes a healthy Riley is better then Compton. Riley doesn't have the best instincts but is physical player that gets downhill. Compton is faster, but gets caught in the wash gets blocked/stays blocked more then I want. I like Foster for his run defense.
If I'm choosing from the batch we had last playing last year I would go for:
(healthy) Riley + Foster

I really like Stephen Daniels kid and it wouldn't surprise me if he really makes a name for himself in training camp and in preseason. Physical, downhill thumper with good instincts.

I was a big fan of Spaight too, don't remember what his injury was but if he's 100% i'll be excited to see what he can do.

I don't want Su'a playing ILB, we're weak in run defense playing a S at ILB isn't gonna help.

How are things going at Redskins camp? So far it seems to be rainbows and unicorn farts. It feels like the only news is coming from the discussion board.
