Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb

Well...in the history of Redskin QB's, the last one that I truly believed in was Theismann. Even when D. Williams and Rypien were starting, they always made me nervous. Joey T. was just so friggin' competitive and he hated the Cowboys and would do just about anything to shove it in their faces. There's some great old video of Joey T. spiking the ball at the helmet of a puss-ass cowboy in the endzone after he scored and a fight erupted. Great days indeed!! I would like to see a little passion and fire and heart out of Patrick. If he can tap into that, maybe that will vault him into a big game kind of player. Like I said earlier, this is THE year for him. If strides are not made, he will be gone. But I am pulling for the kid and I am still more comfortable with him starting than the rook or BooNell.

The three QB's you mention GoSkins who don't have Rings, Vick, McNabb, and Culpepper are all play-off QB's. While they may not have a Ring yet they all are closer to getting one than PR. The age has arrived in the NFL where mobile QB's are going to be premium because the way Defense's play today, imobile QB's are going to be sitting ducks. And while I agree Ripen was not in the least bit mobile, at the time he was playing he was without a doubt the best long-ball thrower in the league, and these words came from his favorite receiver "Gary Clark". In addition Ripen was protected by one of the very best O lines that ever played the game. I will be extremely elated if and when PR can reach that plateau.

I guess maybe what I said sounded wrong. So, let me clarify... I agree that the mobile QB's (Vick, McNabb, Culpepper) are premium QB's in the NFL. I agree that as defenses get more agressive (blitzing), the need for the mobile QB's increases. My statement is that, as counter-intuitive as it may seem, plenty of immoble, pocke QB's win the big game. This happens even when they face good mobile QB's (Warner / Mcnarr, Brady, McNabb).
I beleive that we may have seen the last of the flat footed QB's who can still make it to the big game without getting killed, but I'm smart enough to realize that there is no statistic for me to base that belief on, just a feeling.

One quote from gibbs I will always remember is when he was talking about his QB's and said something like:
"If you can really protect your QB, there are probalbly about 15- 20 in the league that can take you all the way. If you don't, there are only one or two."

Ramsey completed 62.1% of his throws last year. If he wasn't completing the short ones, what was he completing then??

Don't make me laugh!

As if a QB's winning percentage in college amout's to anything. Go take a long look at the line of miami and florida QB's who actually won national championship's and won heisman's who were lucky to make a team as a backup let alone get drafted.

I guess you feel college isn't made up of constant mismatches of talent, and an overly talented college team can just overwhelm other teams regardless of who's quarterbacking. It's not like Auburn had any 1st rd. pick's this past draft, or did they? Yes 4, and 3 of them went in the top 10, it's not like Campbell had to carry that team.

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb

Ramsey was used as a punching bag under Spurrier and spent most of that season eating turf.
You can't blame it all on Ramsey. It all starts with the offensive line.
Our line stuggled last year without Jansen, and he protects the QB's blind side. Raymer and Friedman weren't the best at center. Dockery struggled too. This had an impact on Ramsey who was sacked 23 times. The knock on Ramsey is that he holds onto the ball too long, but this can be corrected. This season I have a cause for optimism with our improved line (heathly Jansen, and better center, Rabach) Ramsey should do better. We saw a glimpse of this towards the end of last season when Ramsey started to become comfortable in Joe's system, and they opened the offense a little, and I liked how Patrick performed. Gibbs is tinkering with the offense, will put in the shotgun, which should also help. He really needs a full season under Gibbs to see his full potential. Ramsey is the key to our entire season---if he can't throw the ball down field then the other teams will crowd the line and stop our running game. And it will be like last year, our defense will be very good, and our offense will suck and we will have another 6-10 season......We can look back with hindsight and speculate what would've happened had Gibbs gone with Ramsey from the start last season....but that's the past and we gotta go with Patrick and see what we got, if he isn't the answer, then here comes Campbell.

Re: Do you guys think ramsey the answer at qb

Ramsey's horrid stats from his relief appearance have come up a couple of times in this thread (and many others), so I'd like to point out that, unlike some other teams, the 2nd string QB gets just about zero reps during weekly practice. Ramsey looked bad that day, but his sinis were sins of aggression (throwing into tight coverage on "homerun" plays) while trying to come from behind. That's hard under any circumstance, much harder when you've gone nearly a month since any meaningful practice with the players on the field.

defensewins is right - you can't throw out bad games. But you should look at the circumstances surrounding them.

There's only one way to find out who's right or wrong in this neverending Ramsey debate. And that's sit back and watch the 2005 season. Next year we'll know where we stand with Ramsey.
