Hankerson would get snatched off the PS in no time. I agree, not happening. Gotta give the kid some time.

I watch a ton of college football, and I don't recall drops being an issue for him at all at Miami. I'm hoping it's just nerves. I was really hoping he'd be a contributor for us this season.

I would never get rid of Hankerson just because of a case of first NFL game nerves. Stallworth showed he still was a productive WR. I would hate for an intradivisional rival pick him up and see him burn us at some point in the regular season. We simply picked up too many Wrs,and it will be a shame to lose most of them. I know Donte is older, but if he can continue to really produce I say keep him for the year of his contract. If Hankerson can't improve over the preseason schedule he is most likely going to be dropped anyway, and if he does improve somewhat, I doubt he is going to be picked up off the PS, unless he really shows us some great stuff. As of now, he looks to be a PS player, but that is only after game 1. Plenty of time to improve. He probably was just taking it all in for the first two series he was in.

You don't stick 3rd round picks on the PS, not one with his potential. Guaranteed someone would gladly pick him up and develop him. It's silly to even be discussing this honestly.

Watch, next week he'll have a good showing and everyone will be drooling again.

The problem as I see it is this: In my many years of following the NFL, I have seen that WR's who start off dropping a lot of passes continue to drop a lot of passes, for as long as their careers last.

There were a lot of positives to take from that game.
I thought Rex showed very well last night, his best drive was our first drive. We started at our own one yd. line and he marched the team 80+yds; the drive culminated in a missed FG by Graham, but it did indeed come against the Steelers starters.

I realize it's just preseason, but Grossman did pitch for a 73.1 comp % a first for him under any circumstance.

Matt,

Don't the coaches go over the players each week and "rank" them in terms of performances? They have to do that when it comes time to make cuts. Hankerson isn't likely to get cut or PSed unless he continues to struggle, for which I doubt he will. Evaluations are game to game. For me, if Stallworth really produces for us, why get rid of him? Nobody is going to trade a pick for him because of his age. I say keep him for the term of his contract and start him. If Hankerson doesn't impress for some reason, nobody is going to steal him away. I just want Wrs that can get the job done. Santana needs all the help he can get. And with Gaffney in the fold, we can have a killer vet Wr corp and have the youngsters improve as understudies.

No way they put Hankerson on the PS
It's clear that Rex really has a full grasp on this offense. Quick decision making, very good accuracy, and man he was really getting the ball out very quickly. I really don't have anything bad to say about his game last night.

On a side note, the Jabar Gaffney trade I think was a really good one. We got a solid veteran receiver who has rapport with Rex (played together at UF) and is a very polished route runner. We got a guy who had 65 catches last year for a guy who probably wasn't going to make our team. Not bad.

Gaffney was a great pickup for us. If Stallworth keeps looking good in preseason I do hope we keep him too. Austin looked sharp as well. It is going to be hard for the coaches to make decisions about our Wrs. They probably could shop around Donte, but I am not sure if we would get a mid round pick for him.

On a complete side note - I really hope Jarmon makes it in Denver. Guy was a quality person and, I think, had the talent to stick & start had he been in the right situation.

That being said - Gaffney & Hightower, right now, look like two seriously solid trades.

For sure. If they stay healthy they will both contribute significantly, and for a grand total of a conditional late round pick and a guy who was getting cut anyway.

Hightower looked phenomenal last night running, catching, and in pass pro. By far the offseason move I'm most excited about.

I know this was a preseason game. I was so happy to not see false starts, fumbles, miss assignments, etc. Everyone was on the same page. I hope they continue this into the next preseason game and beyond. I was pleasantly surprised. HTTR!

Good for Rex glad to see him play good. I do not know how the season will turn out but it was nice to see the Skins play with enthuthiasm. Hankerson will be a great one give him a chance.

Completely agree. Again, I know (b/c Tripp said so) that they destroyed Buffalo last year and maybe I am just remembering the end of the season, but it just seemed that, both in the quality of play & in the what the players have been saying, the team was playing more "teamlike".
