i'm willing to wager my entire future earnings that reggie bush wasn't the only one committing infractions in division 1 football last season... he just got caught. it was not the smartest thing in the world, especially since we're under the microscope (being in the national hunt for two years in a row), but still it isn't unusual.

do you know how often d1 football players receive non-commissioned "gifts" from alumni or their parents receiving similar benefits? it's the tradeoff for what they bring to the program and to the university. yes, they get a free education. but many non-athletes get free educations too. while the ballers aren't there because of their brains, the regular students aren't dedicating all those hours a week on top of classes to win football games.

for the record, d1 schollies aren't allowed to have work study jobs- they get a food and rent stipend. i'm not justifying all these players getting these gifts, but at the same time I'm not going to condemn them either. Until anyone walks in their shoes (try practicing three hours a day, hitting weights when you're not on the field, going to class, finishing homework, and having to perform in front of 85,000 people on Saturdays), people should be careful of glass houses.

If you say Reggie Bush is selfish, you'd better look at your own favorite college team and realize that many of the players are probably getting the same kinds of things. Chances are your newest stud recruit didn't sign that LOI without some sort of signing bonus.

we'll see if this is true... i just hope if all three succeed everyone here will give them due respect... not "leinart is surrounded by edge and two elite receivers" and "lendale has vince young."

Of course. You can't pop the noise if you're not prepared to eat the crow. I had to have my stomach pumped specifically of the crow I ate over Mark Brunell last year.

As for breaking NCAA rules. I don't care. I really don't. It doesn't matter to me one bit. NCAA players get used as it is. It doesn't matter to me if they take advantage of their fame. Schools make millions off of kids who are provided a free education. 40k a year? Those kids are putting more money than that into the school's pockets, so I could really care less about any player taking money. I didn't care about Clarrett breaking rules. I don't care that Vick broke rules. It doesn't matter to me if a college player is taking money because most of them do and don't get caught.

I remember listening to Jeff Bostic talk about when he broke into the league and his first contract. He said, "that was a paycut coming from Clemson." I couldn't care less that a guy was taking advantage of his fame and getting shit for free. Will I feel bad for him if he gets his Hiesman taken away? No. Cause he knew he was breaking the rules and he got caught. But it doesn't matter to me.

As for McAllister...you've seen running backs come back from torn ACL's before. I don't care what he says. I'll be shocked if he goes for 1100 yards.

And as for Michael Bennet. He's sick with his 1 1000 yard season. And I know you're response will be, but Reggie hasn't played in the NFL. So what? That's what ROOKIE means.
I agree with you that there's really nothing wrong with Reggie Bush asking for what he thinks he deserves. Whether I agree with it is a different matter. BUt he's entitled to do what he feels. He has to be prepared to face a backlash in the public eye over that, it's just the nature of the beast.

As far as Deuce coming back from a torn ACL, let me submit the name Terry Allen who came back from two gruesome ACL injuries to put up some pretty nice numbers for the Redskins.

Looks like he has a deal

ESPN.com - NFL - Bush agrees to six-year deal with Saints

Perhaps the title of this thread should be changed then. Anyways, defensewins, try putting yourself in Bush's situation. Are you telling me if you were a highly gifted athlete and someone offered you a nice house because of who you are you would turn it down?

Good for Reggie, good for the Aints and most importantly, good for the fans who were sick and tired of this story headlining all the NFL shows.
