He did play better today and we got the win. However we were still very fortunate to win that game today. I certainly would not want to have to rely on a blocked field goal with six seconds left on the clock to win every week. That blocked field goal is what saved us today. I'm still smarting that last Cowboy drive that got them in FG range.

A win is a win and at 3-5 you don't complain.

So it's not cool to bash Brunell because he played a decent game, but it's ok to bash the defense which had a pretty good game themselves? Ahhh.. hypocrisy.

If you're content with mundane then don't complain.

I'm not content with a back-up grade QB starting for the team I love.

Brunell had a better game at his position than the D did overall, imo (and I'm a defense fan)... how many 3rd downs did Dallas convert, especially 3rd and longs? They cowboy's offense had no problem slicing the D for big chunks on the run (both jones and barber) and romo handled the blitzes nicely. The defense did just enough to put us in a position to win- key stops in the 4th quarter, special teams block on the FG by Vanderjagt...

Matt, I'll be honest and say that he'd have to put up 34 points in the second half to make me happy.
In this case, your faith is in your obvious underestimation of Brunell.

Look I'm not going to act like Brunell set the world on fire today. I really didn't think he played any better today than any other day. I thought he did his part to win. I think he's been doing that all year. I want to see what happens to our offensive efficiency ratings, but I think its clear now that we as fans are blinded by wins and losses. Brunell has been a constant. Another high completion low risk day. He made his mistakes as he usually does. As everyone does. But like hes done all season, he moved the football. He did his part in this win and should be commended.

The difference was in the defense. We made a step from shitty up to average today, and it really made a difference. In character with the rest of the year, we couldnt catch any breaks all game long.

We just pulled off the most amazing well deserved series of plays at the end. The world is right again.

And THAT is my 1500th post.

Poor Brunell. He's the most hated mediocre QB in the NFL, and he's the most hated by the people who should be backing him - HIS FANS!!

I say you stand behind that man and keep you negative thoughts to yourself. He's our ONLY chance to win THIS SEASON!

Re: Give Props to Brunell

Brunell finally made throws in the middle of the field and made some completions in tight coverage. The rest of the league's quarterbacks do that with regularity, but it's a major accomplishment when Brunell does it for the second time in eight games?

Thank heavens for the 11 Dallas penalties for 153 yards, the blocked field goal, the personal foul on the return and the wind to hook the ball just inside the goal posts.

Without these, there aren't any "props to Brunell" threads.

I agree, a win is a win and I'll take one anyway I can get one, but had that FG not been blocked you may be saying something different right now.

Re: Give Props to Brunell

Brunell did "manage" the game but he was by no means good. I am still in favor of benching him, Gibbs needs to pull the trigger, Williams pulled the trigger and benched AA for most of the game starting vincent and we won!

It's very true and quite sad. Because Brunell had no control over Vincent's block, ST's return, or the made FG to end it. But if one of those things doesn't happen, I'm sitting here defending the guy relatively alone for another week.

As I said before, winning fixes everything.

Good point.

So why are you for benching Brunell again?

I was actually very happy with the fact that the game was out of Brunell's hands at the end. Regardless of how well he played today, he still loses around 80% of the time when he has to try to bring a team back in the fourth quarter.

What's interesting though is a lot of people say the answer is just to bench Brunell. But maybe it was to bench Archuleta. Maybe it was to give Sellers some handoffs to mix things up with the running game. Maybe it was having a healthy Griffin.

But I guess there comes a point where the end result is less important than just not having Brunell out there. I'm not at that point, but I suppose others are.
