Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
It's funny with the distraction of the HOF announcement and everyone being in a good mood, now Danny will strike and hire Fassel. That's why he probably wanted to wait till after the SB to select a coach. He's no dummy.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
Not true but how many coachs do the Skins have to go thru anyway. There are 3 questions that you need to ask yourself.... 1)How many years has it bee since the Skins were in the Super Bowl? 2)How many coachs have you had during that time? 3) What is the one common denominator in all this? |

He also knew the anouncement of his hire for coach would capture the headlines, and didn't want it to detract from the excitement of the SB. It was probably an agreement he had with the commissoner. |

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
Did anyone else see Schefter interview Snyder and Green after the HOF announcement? After talking for a few minutes about the HOF and what it means to the Skins, Schefter asked Snyder flat out, "Are you going to hire Steve Mariucci."
A little tap dance. A sidestep. A bunch of smiles. Then a due diligence comment and we'll know something soon. Darrell Green was asked his opinion. All smiles and no opinion. Snyder says that he always listens to his "Hall of Fame former players." I really don't buy that Mooch is out of the market. Whether it was Mooch pushing for the job or if Snyder originally had him on his list. But now, I think Mooch is still the frontrunner and Snyder is loving that he is in the spotlight at the SuperBowl.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
I could be wrong so please help me here, I was watching NFL network and they were showing the Giants and Fassel as coach. While showing the team I thought they showed
the NE coach Billachek(sp,lol) as the OC for the G-men. Is it possible that DS is leaning towards Fossel because he thinks Fossel can produce what Billachek has or can possibly beat him next year? I may be wrong on this one and sorry for waisting your time if I'm wrong but I was pretty sure this aired and began putting two and two together. If he did work under Fossel then maybe he knows what plays maybe called or might have some knowledge of how to beat him since they appear to be the strongest team right now. |

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
Let's face it Redskin faithful, who would want this gig anyway except for the money? The media (not that we should always believe them) is already indicating how wary many coaches and other NFL staff are of working for Dan Snyder & Vinnie Cerrato. What HC would want a job where he can't even select the most important members of his staff (OC & DC)? Whoever we end up with is simply going to be someone that's looking for a big $$$ payday and someone passive enough to let DS and VC make most of the important decisions. UGH!

So not that the Danny would listen to Green but I wonder who he would endorse? I know he was on NFL network but I can't remember if he endorsed anyone or if he side stepped the question.

Saunder was never in the mix for HC. In fact I don't think he's regarded as HC material around the league.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
I'm just not sure I care who we hire as a head coach at this point. Fassel, Mooch, McDaniels...whatever, we will be heavily relying on Zorn and Blache, the HC will be more of an afterthought when you think about it, cause ANY HC brought in can't bring in thier own coaches, leaving the HC spot to rely heavily on the coaches already in place.
I suppose if I had a vote, I'd prefer McDaniels due to what he did for the Pats offense this year, but beyond that, Fassel or Mooch doesn't matter.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
This is hilarious!!!!!!! I wanted Fassel to replace Spurrier til Dan was able to get Coach back!!!!!! Now we are going to get Fassel and I am having some deep reservationsa about it. All he has done since losing the Giants HC position was being a consultant for a crappy Ravens team and now we still want him? I did want him before since he seemed to get more out of an otherwise medicore Giants squad back in the day, but I am not sure he is the guy to continue the rebuilding process. Seems like we are going backwards again.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel
Neither one would probubly be a bad choice. If you go with the young guys your taking a gamble. Will they turn out to be another Gruden or not. The safe bet is with the old guys who have been around. So when looking at Fossil or Mooch which fits better. We know we will be running a WC offense. Does Fassil know how to run it? If he has never been in a WC style offense and we have an option between him and one who has I would prefer the one who has. Does this make Mooch perfect? no. He has worked for Walch and learned a little bit I'm sure. He worked for Holmgren in Green Bay and taught Farve. Then you have Zorn who is a WC coordinator and has worked for Holmgren in Seattle and is a QB coach who taught Hasselhoff(who by the way is not the greatest). It would be nice to have to talented coach's to be able to teach JC and give pointers. Plus both bring the WC style to the table.
All Fossil is if he has not been in the WC style is a glorified motivational speaker. pump up the team and allow the co ordinators to call the plays and make adjustments. Oh wait he might get to throw the red flag once and a while. |
