DM is a pretty damn good qb. He's no Manning or Brady, but he's pretty good. We could do alot worse.

Maybe if he had an oline that was worth a sh**, I'd listen to the criticism. He's made the best this year out of a terrible oline.

Also, we're due for more years of suck until the general fan populace is sufficiently humbled and realizes that we need another year of purging so we can have a glorious future. Peyton Manning is the greatest thing ever to happen to Indy, but it took them having one year where they were the bottow-dwellers of the league to get him.

Your sentiments were echoed by some about Haynesworth as well.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension

It's very easy to second guess this decision, because it is a gamble. He won't perform like an 80 million dollar qb if we don't give him a good offensive line in front of him, and the interior of our line right now is pretty bad.

This could be a great thing for us, make no mistake, but we do have to acknowledge the risk we're taking here. We are locking him up for multiple years which is a good thing imo, but since he hasn't proven himself yet in our system we don't know whether this will work out.

And make no mistake, if he continues to perform badly this will only put more negative attention on the Redskins. This will answer the doubts about him staying here long term but more important questions remain.

Now Shanahan can draft his future and Redskins future prospect whoever that will be and groom him behind McNabb.

Instead of losing him to Free Agency and finding a way to fill the QB position and waiting for him to learn the offense or Sexy Rexy being our starter,we can now look to address the O-line,WR and what other positions of need in upcoming seasons.

GREAT JOB BRUCE!!
HTTR
I agree with this..I personally don't give a crap how much we pay a player as much as how long they are reasonably under contract.
5 years is perfect for McNabb...I see 2-3 years starting and 2-3 years backup with some sort of restructure for years 4-5...It looks like McNabb will end his career with us after all....and that is a very good thing.
I am sure an older McNabb will certainly be as effective as an older Brunell.
It seemed to work pretty well with Brunell and Campbell....but before you guys kill me....odds are the parallel future combo of McNabb and young QB yet to be determined will be far more effective....especially assuming our oline and aggressive playcalling improves over the next year or two.

This also says a lot about Shanny's future....he is going to stick with McNabb for at least this year and next and probably 1 phase out year.
That means Shanny has no plans to bail for at least 3 years...depending on how effective our new young QB pans out.
Of course, I may be reading a bit much into this but I see this move as an AWESOME MOVE.

Ya gotta finish what you started...and the skins just did that with McNabb.
Don't worry...McNabb always responds well....he is a pro and an offensive leader...I expect him to play well tonight and going forward....regardless of the oline. A win would be a nice suprise to me tonight....as we have major issues on both lines and Vick is on fire.

I really don't like to extension but what was plan B? Go with Grossman? I would've kept Campbell and kept the draft picks....but that's me.

Technically, the OL only played bad in the Detroit game (Green Bay might be the other exception). The other games they've held up quite well in the pass-pro considering who they've played. It was McNabb that was constantly throwing dirt balls and over throwing Galloway. To pin this all on the OL is laughable at best. Beyond the Houston game, he's not shown very much in terms of good QB play. Even in that game, the second half he was off.

$$$ I could care less about it the fact we are stuck with him for the next 2 or 3 years. We will see maybe it is a blessing.

Very excited about this deal for Donovan. Very excited for the team. A true leader, a true quarterback. And now, he, and everyone else KNOWS this is his team.

Apparently, the Redskins have been mediocre enough for the past decade that slightly above average is now worth paying elite money for. There's a whole host of QBs I'd take over McNabb(not Jason Campbell, btw).

And faith alone ain't going to win football games. In our glory years, we also had the tangible aspect down. Those teams had talent to go along with the coaching, etc. The current regieme has stymied us with a win now gamble in which they have only 3 years to reasonably expect their gamble to succeed.

Actually if you followed the Eagles which I did for 2 reasons,
1 obviously because he's a Syracuse product.
2 One of my brothers is a die hard Eagles fan.

Once the Eagles get into the playoffs they start to call a very conservative game. It's actually not all DM's fault that he's a different QB in Big games. Even though I am not a Eagles fan it was still frustrating to watch DM's game get taken out of his hands and watch him frustrated.

Once he's frustrated he throws balls at the ground. Hopefully things will be different here for him. One thing I can say is when he gets hot, he's the best QB you ever seen.
