Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
This is the moodiest team I've ever seen. They change from being brilliant to pathetic almost on a drive by drive basis. First half was awesome. And you know what adjustments the Bucs are going to make at half time. But then we don't adjust accordingly to those adjustments and play right into their hands. Man handled in first half, then not a single first down till half way through the 4th. It's very peculiar to watch.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
did anyone else notice how sundberg our long snapper was zipping his snaps yesterday? on a punt in the 3rd quarter he zipped the ball and i told my lady "dang that boy really zippin that ball right there". i didnt think much of it as i complained about our weak punt protection a lil earlier, i actually predicted a blocked punt b/c the bucs seemed to be getting good outside penetration. so i didnt think much of it, chalking it up to atleast hes getting the ball back there in a hurry b/c the bucs were coming.
any way the wet turf allows for a speedier take off/snap? less resistance?

I bet part of the problem is that: 1) The Skins defense sucks so refs aren't going to give it the benefit of the doubt; 2) Orakpo strikes me as a guy who thinks his play should speak for itself and is not out to bitch & moan. Much as I hate to say it, he needs to sit down with the refs and say "Just watch me play, I am held every f'ing down. Please call it once in while or I am going to actually get seriously hurt."

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
Little grabs and holds happen on most plays in the NFL, but Rak seems to get these totally blatant clothesline holds way too often. The ref behind the line was looking down field? Why? It's his job to watch the line play, isn't it?? Rak does need to start speaking up a la Bruce Smith style. Get in the ref's ear the first time it happens during a game.

I'm not going to sit here and say that that cost us the game because god knows we didn't play that well in the second half, but that is a major play that never should've been counted because of the holding. And the backfield refs need to start focusing on the offensive line because it's not their gd job to watch the ball soar down the field, it's their job to watch for penalties around the offensive line.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
will be interesting to see Rak up against Dallas again. they don't have anyone that can come close to blocking him 1 on 1 in the pass game. This game might've gotten him some good publicity w/the refs & they may pay more attention come sunday.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
I actually think the team should do more than just complain the first time it happens in a game. I think they should compile a collection of photos of all the times Orakpo has been held all season and send to the league and demand an explanation and correction action going forward. Even if it were limited to the most egregious examples -- like yesterday's -- it would likely make for a pretty compelling presentation. What's troubling is that the way he's being held is actually dangerous to him -- getting and arm across the thoat is no joke. And with all the effort the league is making to protect QBs and otherwise limit injuries, there's a point to make here having nothing to do with allowing the Redskins to compete. Orakpo is simply one of the best in football right now, and his sack numbers/pressures would be through the roof but for these seemingly constant non-calls.
And for the folks who say that these plays aren't enough to make the difference in a game and that the Redskins need to otherwise take care of business, I agree but only to a point. A few well timed sacks or forced fumbles or pressures leading to errant throws are often the only things that separate the very successful teams from those which are not. |

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
imo the refs werent calling holds yesterday. outside of the sellers holding call on the kick return, they were consistently not calling holding which is all that i ask.
that and i think rak should do a better job of selling the hold but thats a slippery slope id rather avoid by telling rak to keep going 100% and the calls will come. when shanny was talking to the refs and showing them the image, i thought shanny had a clear rule violation like too many men on the field or illegal formation . . . holding is much more subjective. it now makes sense to me why the head ref came over then quickly walked away. arguing holding is like arguing the strike zone.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
Sure...no one listened to me when I said cut Sundberg in the PRESEASON! Ugh.
Not the first game he's cost us this season. A long-snapper should never be noticed. OH, and we did NOT get an extra play...the booth guys were just idiots who got confused when the sign guy forgot to change it once. If they were paying attention, they would have caught that. This was no Colorado Buffaloes 5th Down scenario.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
listened to cooley on way home. he said:
- delay of game was b/c call didnt get thru mcnabb's headset. i still dont know why it should have effected play unless they wanted to line up, see what bucs were doing then make a call from there. - on play before delay of game he said they had a great call but 2 guys blocked the wrong defenders - on 3rd and goal pass to cooley that fell short in 1st quarter. that he talked to mcnabb who said the bucs changed to a 5 man front before snap, mcnabb thought he was on hot read status, saw color in front of him (during play, i guess that means feeling/seeing pressure while still looking downfield) and thought he had to get rid of it. - that there are fairweather fans everywhere but the true fans will focus on things to cheer about. - that he does not apologize for yelling back at skins fan at end of game who yelled something like redskins suck. ps - im a lavar fan but he is a richard to the infinite degree and has major envy and jealousy issues since he hung up the cleats. and chad and lavar need to stop acting like fan call questions is a torture device, its those 2 schmucks who make it a very uneven disjointed segment of their show.

Re: Redskins vs Bucs GameDay Thread
This team, and everything about this team sucks balls!
I hate to be the guy to say stuff like that, but I find it somewhat therapeutic because my heart hurts so much when this team plays like this. This is not the type of football I grew-up watching. I have taught my kids to love this team, just like we all do here at this site, but for too long this team has not resembled the team that I was so proud of back in their hey day. I feel like I have cursed my kids with this team by having them swear their loyalty and allegiance to this team. A couple of weeks ago I told my kids that they are free to choose another team if they like, and I apologize for having taught them that Redskins are the only team that they can support. Well, for some reason they are still supporting those sorry POS's. Why I don't know. Maybe they are taking that whole loyalty thing to a higher level. But, I don't know how much longer they will blindly be behind the Redskins, since the Redskins have done nothing to inspire hope. I want to thank the mods for allowing us fans to continue to vent about how woefully pathetic our team is by not closing this thread. Maybe one day this team will deserve our fandom and wild support. I firmly believe that there are no finer fans than us Skins fans. But, as of now this current crop of class 9 clowns do not deserve such adulation and support from us. So with that said, I say: F THIS TEAM!!!
