The Redskins were unwilling to make a deal then, but tried to call the Browns back before the trade deadline, hoping they could still get that first round pick. The Browns refused. essentially hanging up the phone on them.

The biggest part of the story is going to be the dumpster fire located in Ashburn, Virginia, but the takeaway should be the fact that Browns general manager John Dorsey was fully prepared to mortgage a significant asset in a horrible trade. Six weeks ago, the trade was still a horrible idea.

reported that the Browns offered a 1st.

reported that that report was not accurate

meh ... get a 2nd if you can or 2 3rds and move on.

Really curious what Trents asking potential teams in terms of contract. If we wants 20 AAV ... teams wouldnt give us a 4th for that.
As I've said repeatedly, that report has been debunked. Browns never offered a first.

Keim has stated many times that the reports of a 1st round pick being offered for Trent last year were not true.

So Trent Williams agent says skins are not acting in good faith .. says team is unreasonable in there trade demands.. hmmm .. so let me get this straight Williams wants to be paid like one of the highest Oline players in league but wants redskins to let him walk for chump change or some mid rnd pick ... you can’t have it both ways .. i would tell his agent IF he is worth the contract you are after then it’s at least a number 2 round pick and maybe more .. or let him sit

Fair points. I do wonder what we offered him.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

I read somewhere the trade possibilities for Trent Williams ... those teams who have a need for a LT, and the cap room to afford TW, and the draft capital to trade for him ...

It was the usual suspects -- Cleveland, Jetties, blah blah ...

But the long shot was Miami ...

The Dolphins have 3 first rounders, 2 second rounders and a third rounder.
With a rookie QB being drafted, one with injury history, they'll want a good LT.
And they still have a bunch of room under the cap ...............

What do you all think? Is this really possible?

Could the Skins actually wind up with a 2nd rounder for TW?

Our 2nd overall and TW for Miamis first two 1st round picks, their 2nd this year and next years 3rd.

Not possible. Why would they trade for an old guy when they just traded Tunsil? The more likely scenario is for Miami to take one of the top tackles. They're out on Trent. He makes no sense for them.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

NO ONE is trading for Trent unless he backs off of his ridiculous contract demands. Every team that has inquired about a trade said "no thanks" and lost interest when they found out what he wanted.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/03/25/ja...market-mailbag

Quote:
my understanding is there have been suitors out there for Trent Williams. The trouble is—and I’ll be very clear about this—almost 100% his contract situation. Last year, word circulated that Williams asked the Redskins for quarterback money. And the Redskins found interest over the last few weeks in Williams, only to have suitors push away from the table when apprised of the seven-time Pro Bowl tackle’s financial demands.

Thing is, asking another team for a first- or second-round pick for a player is a lot. You’re giving up a piece of capital that can bring in a young, top player under cost control for the next four or five years—or maybe multiple players, if you trade for, then move the pick. So the player being dealt for has to be good and really valuable to begin with. But if, then, that player wants to break the bank, too? And if he’s in his 30s? Again, it’s a lot.

That’s not to say Williams may not have a legitimate beef with the team, or that he isn’t worth more than he’s making. It’s just that if he really wants to be traded, he has to realistic about it, and work with the team here, since he’s under contract. If he’s more worried about making top dollar? Then play the year out, and hit the market next March. It’s that simple.

He bet on himself, and it hasn't work out for him...

and it is not going to he needs to significantly lower his contract demands....make it more incentive-based

He wont. The lack of guaranteed money is the entire reason Trent held out to begin with.

in 2015, the redskins made Trent Williams the highest paid offensive linemen in NFL history. They did this despite numerous suspensions for weed and injuries keeping of the field. Trent WANTED a front-loaded contract, and the team gave it to him. This resulted in the back-end (2019 and 2020) not being guaranteed. Trent knew this, and signed the contract. It would seem that his plan, all along, was to play during the front-loaded portion of the contract, then hold out unless he got a new contract (presumably also front-loaded).

Essentially, Trent wants to have his cake and eat it too. His plan has to essentially try to take advantage of the team in such a way that every year he actually plays football that all (or almost all) of the contract is guaranteed. With few exceptions (Kirk Cousins), this is just not how NFL contracts work.

To be honest, a team would be stupid to trade for Trent. He is not honoring the contract of a team that made him the highest paid player at his position before - why would he not do the same thing to his new team as soon as the guaranteed money runs out? In a sense, it would be like having an affair with a married woman and then marrying her yourself. You can do it, if you want. But dont expect anyone to show you any sympathy when she cheats on you with someone else.
