Re: Portis on 980
I'm not too worried about OUR cap situation. I'm worried about our cap situation as compared with other teams. Since so many teams have so much cap room and we have so little, I fear that only unwanted/junk players will hit the market and other teams will have first crack at them since they have far more cap room to work with.

Re: Portis on 980
By the way Portis will be a correspondent for NFL Network's GameDay covering the Giants v. Eagles game. That should be entertaining

Re: Portis on 980
I listened to the first half on the way into work this morning. Can't say I disagree with much he has said so far.
If you have a problem, and management has announced an open-door policy, you need to speak up. If you still aren't comfortable, go to a team leader. And, seriously, no captains? It's not a democracy.

Re: Portis on 980
My biggest complaint (concern) about Gibbs, and I've mentioned this many times before, is that for all his deserved hype as being a leader and master motivator, he can't develop solid young coaches in his mold the way Walsh, Parcells, and even Schottenheimer have been able to. Maybe it's because you can't teach whatever it is he has. But for all their football knowledge, it'd be nice if some of these guys like Saunders, Williams, Lindsey, Hixon, etc. could develop Gibbs' communication skills with the players.

People skills are TM by Gibbs.
And yes, I'm going to the gym, just waiting for Nicole.

Re: Portis on 980
You know alot of this is venting about a horrible season for the team and CP. He did say some things that are concerning that alot of us have been saying.
I thought after last year that this team had great chemistry, but during the offseason the FO starts throwing $ & draft picks around like its nothing. Well you know, it affends people that are "core" guys. As for Lloyd, I have defended him throughout this year and I'm starting to change my mind a little. We don't know all the details, but if it walks and talks like a duck its probably a duck. He's a likeable guy but when things start coming from multiple sources its usually true. We'll see. |

Re: Portis on 980
Is the screen pass a Saunders pass play or a Gibbs running play?

Re: Portis on 980
Portis is fine, he leads on the field and that's where it counts. Truth be told, no one really cares what he's like in his personal life. The guy is a baller until the whistle blows.
The problem isn't that Portis speaks his mind, it's that the coaches don't speak there's, it seems. You never can get a pulse for team until some swanky article breaks or until you hear from Portis or Cooley. The one thing I admire about Bill Parcells is that you tend to get a good feel about how he feels about his team and the temparture of the locker room. He doesn't pull any punches. |

I also thought he sounded a bit threatened by Betts' success, feeling that he has to reprove himself all over again. Maybe not by Betts directly, but by coaches and the fans. Finally, hearing how divided the offense and defense (where corners and safeties aren't coached together?) really are, I'm slightly amazed Betts caught that TD at the end of the game Saturday. |

Re: Portis on 980
That interview reminds me so much of why this entire organization needs to rethink itself, and get everyone on the same page. The concerns of which Portis speaks are not monumental, they are trivial things that can be worked out with better communication.
