Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Sure he has a 5 year deal but we are going into year 2 and if you assume they pass on QB's this year then we are talking year 3...and if you figure a couple years of grooming to get the QB to the point where you can really contend for a Super bowl with him then where does that put us? I don't think you can assume a hand off to Kyle unless the team is winning and there is something built thats worth continuing on with. I know they have other needs but i just don't see this regime taking off until they settle the QB issue. I just hope they like someone...I don't even care who it is...just that they like him.

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I wouldn't want to see the Skins draft any of the current crop of QB's at #10.
Also, I hate the idea of taking a WR at #10 because there have been far too many 1st Round busts at the WR position (and we've had more than our fair share of WR busts). That said, we might be forced to take AJ Green if he is still available at #10. There is no RB, OL or NT in this draft that I would like at #10 and there is little chance that we would take a TE, S, or ILB there. That leaves OLB, DE, and CB. Miller is probably the only OLB that I'd take at #10. I'd probably take Peterson or Prince at #10, as well, because of the great value of a shutdown corner (and there is no guarantee that the Skins will re-sign Carlos Rogers). I'm not sold on any DE at #10. So, I'd have to say that there are only about four players who would not be a nightmare for me at #10. To be honest, I wouldn't be satisfied with one of them either because I believe that we need to build a foundation for this team and I'd like to see us trade down and acquire more picks. |

Would you be against Mallett at 41? I wouldn't. I don't understand threads like this though. It seems to needlessly foster negativity. The draft is a crap shoot anyway with no proven means of successful predicting success. I don't get the point of holding strong negative opinions about prospects that could end up playing for your team. The following would make sense to me at the 10 spot by tiers: (a) trade down (1) OT, RDE, QB (2) OLB, WR, CB BuckSkin- LoL, I didn't mean to sell anyone, does this help.... Locker sucks! J/K |

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Well I said 1st round, not necessarily 10th overall. And it's not like this site is all candy and roses and I came along with this thread like a black cloud bringing negativity. But it was just to bring about some fresh discussion. If anything, we've learned that just about every possible pick for the Skins is going to upset at least someone. And no I don't want Mallet at 41 either

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Are you serious?
If so, I can see the comparison because, like Marino, Mallett is a statue with a great arm and excellent accuracy. But Marino had the ability to make lightning quick decisons and he had an extremely quick release and I don't see those traits in Mallett. Marino also played behind a great OL and, when Marino played, the defenses didn't come at the QB with the kind of sophisticated blitzes that they employ today. Mallett probably won't have a great OL and the way defenses play now makes it harder for a immobile QB to succeed. As for the possibility of the Redskins drafting Mallett, I would say that the odds of that happening would be low unless he dropped so far that Shanahan just couldn't justify not doing so. But the Skins taking Mallett at #10 would definitely be a draft pick nightmare for me. Shanahan has clearly shown that he prefers to have a mobile QB. To me, Jake Locker (who is a lot like Jake "The Snake" Plummer but with a better arm) is the type of QB Shanahan would want. If Shanahan were to take Locker at #10, I wouldn't like it but I'd try to reserve judgement on the pick. |

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I think A.J. Green and Julio Jones are safe picks at 10th overall.
