Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone

I have to say I'm pretty concerned about our secondary. We have, at best, one average cover corner and a bunch below average. Our starting safeties are both at risk to miss significant playing time due to injuries. If our front 7 is anything less than DOMINANT, teams with even an average passing attack should be able to beat us in the deep passing game with regularity.

Yeah i am too. Combine that with 2 converted DE's that now have to drop into coverage i think that is one of our major weaknesses. The positive is that i think we have very solid depth at CB just no real lockdown corners, so our nickle packages should be strong. Back up FS is still a major concern though.

Someone said something about maybe the Skins giving up on Moore? I think he's on the pup list so i see us keeping him on their instead of releasing him. Although that only gives him 7 weeks from now to get healthy.

One thing i like about Snyder is that he doesnt mind paying a injured player if the coaches think that player may be able to help us in the future. How much easier would it have been to cut Malcome Kelly last year, but paying him to sit on IR was worth a gamble for Danny. Unfortunitly it didnt pay off.

But really that's what this defense is built on- pressure from the front 7 in the passing game and stuffing the run. The secondary relies on this from the front 7 and the dbs need to make and take advantage of big plays when available. All four starting dbs (corners and safeties) have big play capability. That includes Wilson. He won the game against the falcons in OT last season. My concerns are with health and cohesion and comfort with playing together.

I really wanted Kelly to work out for us. Shame he didn't have the heart.

How do you question the guys heart? This isn't Haynesworth. He's not able to play due to injury. Being injury prone doesn't mean you don't have heart.

Hard to trust this when his source is JReid...
Seems like Snyder has always given the "football" people some level of freedom, the thing is VC had his head so far up his a** and wanted to please DS so much that if Danny said he really liked MK I could see that becoming THE OWNER SAID in VCs mind...

People forget Zorn slipped up and revealed Malcolm should have been assigned to season-ending injured reserve before rookie MORE

I echoed that sentiment Kelly's rookie season and mentioned it in an earlier post. His career may have taken a different turn had he not been rushed into playing.

Big difference between hurt and injuries. He didn't play through anything. In my opinion that's no heart.

Did you not read anything above? It's obvious you didn't. You act like he sat himself out because he had a hangnail. Some of you guys are rediculious. In fact, stories are coming out now that he was pressured to play when he probably shouldn't have.

Taylor Jacobs' problems started when an opposing player landed on him as a play was ending. Not saying he didn't get hurt, but my god, he hardly saw any playing time when he was here! I mean, what, he played maybe 3-4 downs during his 4 year stint with us? Kelly wasn't a putz that sat out for a hangnail or stubbed toe, but geez, the guy couldn't stay in shape even when he wasn't on the field? When I played in HS I played with twisted ankles, jammed fingers, etc, and I stayed in because I wanted to play. I am sure Malcolm was banged up, but you need to suck it up if you want to make it in the NFL. With some of the above posts, it looks like he shouldn't have been drafted though.

I read all of the posts, one guy agrees with me and there are some quotes that say we shouldn't have drafted him. I can't speak to if we should have drafted him or not, I was excited about the pick at the time. I can speak to the fact that he hasn't played much and seems to have an attitude that it doesn't matter. It could be a defense mechanism, however it comes across to me as having no heart.

willingness vs ability - Google Search

Why don't you give us the medical diagnosis, Dr. Recchi?

Kelly played all 16 games just two years ago. And probably would have played some games last year if NFL IR rules didn't force him to miss the entire season.

I am referring to Taylor Jacobs as playing only a handful of downs for us. Kelly did show some promise at one point, but can't stay healthy. Maybe the intensity of playing Big 12 football wore him out, but damn, that is awfully young to be injury prone. I hope he actually received a real degree from Oklahoma, because he is going to need it soon.

I think he will be ok. Some of his quotes which seem to indicate to some folks that he has no desire actually indicate, from a different point of view, that he is a level-headed, intelligent adult who realizes that he needs a backup plan because he won't play football forever even in the best-case scenario.
