Re: ESPN: Why did Steve Spurrier fail in NFL?

Why are we talking about a college coach who hasn't coached in the NFL for close to 10 years now..

because it looks like chip kelly may be making the jump, and if you wanted to speculate as to whether or not he can succeed, perspective on what went wrong with previous college phenoms may prove insightful.

and cause it still part of redskins history.

but i don't know, next time you bring up a draft prospect i'll ask why we're discussing people who aren't even in the nfl, or whatnot. if you're not happy with the thread, you're free to ignore it.

Then talk about Chip Kelly, not Spurrier who has said he will never go back to the pros again. Why should really look back at something so bad when we having something so good right in front of us.

And the draft is relevant, when Kiper and McShay come out, the draft starts to become important. Also I made that thread back when we were looking and a lot of us thought our season was done (even Shanahan)

This is pretty interesting and I'm glad I've read through this thread.

That's just me though...

This simple statement really captures the essence of Spurrier's problems in Washington. A very good friend of mine & myself actually knew two of Coach Spurrier's assistants. They were both candid about the lack of work ethic, the preference for golf over film study and practice, & Spurrier's arrogance with regard to "knowing more" than other coaches. Derailed his NFL career in a hurry!

Thats funny, it makes me want to weep.

Its also funny how he still holds a grudge against The Redskins(siding with Shanny when he bashes them) then he quits on the his new team as soon as things get tough, like he did here. Grrrrr, I will despise that coach for as long as I bleed Burgundy & Gold.

Some guys are just college coaches. Spurrier was just a college coach.

Spurrier is a douche. Knowing that the great Joe Gibbs slept about 2 hours per day for years to hone his craft, you have to be a grade A douche to come in and think you can win with no work behind it. And that's exactly what he proved to be. Screw him and his stupid visors. Ol ball coach was a sackless weasel.

It might have also had something to do with the fact that he worked for at the time the most dysfunctional team in the NFL. Spurrier also says that his second year, neither he or his coaches were even allowed to pick the players, and at that moment he knew it was over. He has said this in interviews all the time..He is also surprisingly not bitter about his time here.

Re: ESPN: Why did Steve Spurrier fail in NFL?

Spurrier would have failed with any team in the NFL.

Who the heck in their right mind would have let Spurrier pick players at this level? He was perfectly fine with the arrangement and the nice payday with minimum effort.

He's got nothing to be bitter over, he was a joke and he knew it.

Re: ESPN: Why did Steve Spurrier fail in NFL?

What gets me about Spurrier is he just up and quits on his team like a true gutless pussy. How about you announce this is your last year but finish the job and be a man. To walk out on his team when the going gets tough pretty much says he's a quitter. He's probably golfing today. SMH.
