But with McGee hear me out...first I was against the move when it was made preferring to put that money towards calis Campbell and it’s proven to be a bad decision. BUT...if we bring in a d coordinator who goes base 4-3 then we would move back to scheme where McGee excelled with the Raiders. I think he would be more valuable and we could retain rotational depth. Going forward our strategy should be keep the trenches stacked...our front office negligence with interior Oline has sunk this team for several years.
I hear you and agree on the stack the trenches philosophy.

A couple of things though: I like the idea of transitioning to a 4 - 3, been liking it for several years now. But a lot of you pointed out we're kinda short on ILBs. I'd like to keep Mason Foster, on a good day I think he's a smart, tough and underrated player, but his status is unsure with all the drama he had this season. Plus on a bad day his lack of speed is hurting us. Hamilton has shown some flashes. A healthy Zach Brown is a solid LB and he has improved his covering skills. Then what? I like Zach Vigil but is he a viable starter? You transition Ryan Anderson to SAM but it's a project and he's improved as a 3-4 OLB this season.
My fear is that right now it would be creating another need.

Still would like it if a new DC comes in and wants a 4-3 though.

Back on McGee, with Payne, Allen, Ioannidis and Settle as young studs, I think we can find way cheaper rotational guys than him. I like the 3M over him.

See...I didn't bring him up, but Mason Foster should be cut...think it would save 2.5 mill. After that social media message and a season where he was inconsistent, he shouldn't be brought back. Hamilton and Anderson should be given an opportunity and they both played well this year. Zach Brown is one of the better LB in the league, so he would stay. Also, remember we picked up a piece of shit R. Foster...he could make noise too.

McGee...on the fence. He wasn't bad for us when he played.

1.75M per OTC. If a new DC comes in and Jay thinks he can handle it, I'd keep Mason. Again, assuming there's a new DC that can bring the better out of him, which IMO is a valuable smart and tough vet. If Manusky stays MF obviously needs to be gone, but in that scenario I don't see anybody on that D playing to their full potential.

Mason Foster is a bum. How is he still in the league? He can't get off blocks, can't cover anyone and is slow. To me he's not even a backup. I would have rather kept Spaight. Not really impressed w/ Dion Hamilton either. He played like shit against the Eagles.

We don't have the LB's to run a 3-4. I'd rather have our d-line getting up field and attacking. Let them be the playmakers of the defense.

I remember saw an article stating that we also signed Marquis Flowers to future contract, I can't find the article.

Mason Foster was so bad that he led the team in tackles - and the player with the next highest number of tackles wasn't even close. So let's just throw out all that production and replace him with someone with "potential" since Jay Gruden likes potential so much [sarcasm].

This is a classic case of stats being misleading. Just watch the last game and tell me if you think he is a starter. He is so damn slow.

He's not fast, but I put 99% of the blame on Manusky's schemes. He's so worried of getting beat deep, the LBs and DBs play off a billion yards.

Why do you heap abuse on a player who was productive and available (16 games) rather than point out the real liabilities on the team, specifically players with little or no production and/or availability?

You're not the only one. People here are constantly on Ryan Kerrigan's case because he's only an excellent player when he supposedly should be great player, I guess. Every year we get 16 games worth of very good play from Ryan. Hell, if everyone on the team played their positions as well as he plays his, we'd win the Super Bowl.

We don't need to eliminate productive and available players, we need to get rid of the real turds - you know, the ones who are said to have potential year after year after year but never deliver results and those who can't stay well enough to get on the field.

We also need coaches who know how to best use their players.

Yeah Mason Foster is quite underrated but he has his share of responsibility in it: he's slow, there's no arguing that, but when he plays well he makes up for his lack of speed, he's smart enough to be a really good covering LB, and he's a solid tackler.
And of course there's Mason on a bad day who's just slow, out of position and scared to make any decision.
I don't think we have another player displaying such different levels of play game to game.

Re: Offseason starts now: A Redskins players thread

Since we have big question mark with QB position - Redskins will have to explore for every opportunity to improve the position. I came across one article talking about Kyle Shurmur from Vanderbilt. I don't like the idea of drafting a QB just to be game manager although, Redskins is not in a position where they can find adequate replacement for next season unless we trade up in draft. Lot of people are saying that 2019 draft is not best year to draft QB and 2020 draft will be deep with QB. With that said, If Redskins choose to focus on improving team this year for long-term run (either for Alex or new QB) and they get an opportunity to draft a QB after first 2 or 3 rounds this year, I wouldn't oppose to this strategy.

I don't watch college football so I don't know anything about this QB. I'm curious to see what you guys think of this idea?

I don't think he really dissed the organization, he actually spoke the truth in someways.

Also saying we wouldn't miss ZB is a HUGE Overreaction. He is a top 5 LB at his Position.
