We can't hire him due to the PR nightmare it would be unfortunatly. I like personally like the defensive coordinator of the panthers. It sure would be nice to have a coach that values knocking the chocolate outta people and moving the ball on offense.

well, i think the two guys we're talking to show that at least we're looking in the right places (seahawk's OC, carolina's DC). we'll see who else shows up on their list, but that's a good start.

I still think shaw would be best if that were a doable thing.

I see no problems in being meticulous in our coaching search. I think we have a lot of pieces in place and we need to make sure we have a coach that can take those pieces (as well as the cap resources) and make our team successful.

Of course you didn't. Everyone had just blindly jumped on the Briles bandwagon without knowing shit about shit. Everyone is looking at all of these candidates through rose colored glasses. It's amazing how the irrational hatred of shanahan has got everyone looking at mediocre guys as messiahs. All of you, answer me this -

How confident are you that ANY of these guys you've got hard ons for would have done better than shanahan inheriting cerratos roster and having the salary cap penalty?

Keep in mind that almost 50 players on the roster zorns last year were completely out of the league 2 years later. Shanahan inherited a roster that devoid of talent and the cap penalty prevented him from fixing it as quickly as he otherwise could have. I'm not trying to whine about losing shanahan as much as I'm pointing out that you have no rational basis for believing Any of these college coaches or nfl coordinators will improve on the foundation shanahan built vs tearing it apart.

Umm. Doesn't have anything to do with being "blind".

I'm not going to judge a coach or team based off one year of penalties.

22 wins in 4 seasons is pretty mediocre for any head coach. Doesn't get any more mediocre then that.

Its not about the Cerrato team that any coach would be inheriting. It would be about what coach is going to with a ream that Shanahan made. Slow Defense and a small offensive line. Only one playmaker at WR and a RB who we are not sure will be able to play outside a Shanny zone offense.

Shanahan was less than mediocre, want proof look at his record post Elway and Washington. Dismall

They'll have every opportunity to quickly improve the roster. The Skins are in a better cap situation that any team in the NFC and all of Shanny's signings over the years have been team friendly. The next coach isn't inheriting a Haynesworth or Portis-like contract. They'll have a full compliment of picks starting in year 2.

And the cupboard is not bare, at least on Offense. They were the #1 rushing unit just last year and top 5 Offensively. It will all come down to the play of RG3. Reed can be a legit #2 and garçon lead the league in receptions and Alfmo put up 1600 yards just a year ago. TW is one of the best left tackles in football.

lets not forget that it was Shanahan that created the cap penalty

NO SHANNY DID NOT CREATE THE CAP PENALTY.

Vinny and Danny created the massive boondoggle contract for Haynesworth, and Hall too.

John Mara, Roger Goodell, and Jeff Lurie and other owners, actually created the cap "penalty".

All Shanahan did was have the contracts redone to pay out in the uncapped year. A restructuring that THE LEAGUE HAD TO ACTIVELY APPROVE to be implemented. And the league did approve the contracts. And even after the cap "penalty" they put in place two years after the fact, the league front office is quoted as saying the Redskins "broke no rules".

For all the stuff that did go wrong in Shanny's tenure, the cap "penalty" was definitely not his fault.

disagree!! . . . they may have signed the players . . . but it was how Shanny decided to handle the situation of getting rid of the players that created the cap penalty . . .

Jesus....Some people just don't get it, yes technically he and Bruce caused it. but we would have been in cap hell with the contracts given by the last regime if they didn't dump them all into the uncapped year.

Also the penalties make sense because they do run so many more plays then typical teams

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)

It sucks we're already into gamble candidates ie coordinators without HC experience and pretty limited success. I mean at least McDaniels had a ring as DC.

Maybe the bad rap is making a difference in the A list guys minds. Hoping we don't end up with another Zorn type hire, tho still prefer that to a lowlife like Shanahan. With Lovie gone my next guy up is Gregg Williams. Sure bring Briles in to run the offense. Even call him HC if that's what it takes. But at this point we need a leader of men and there's only ? marks on the interview list.

Y'all realize that the order in which candidates are interviewed has zero to do with the order of interest in them, right?
