What about a stop-gap solution with Pace and using our 13th overall on DE or LB?
NO THANKS! Hes old and has to many injuries. He "might" be able to play a year or two else where. Not in DC!

Not to mention hes a LT which we don't need.

He could extend his longevity at the tackle position if he slides over to RT, but I want a young solution at tackle, not another old stop-gap.

I think the whole purpose would be for him to be a stop-gap and allowed the team to use the #13 on a defensive player (i.e. LB). While no one wants our line to get older, we definitely can't just sign a FA b/c they are young.

Well you certainly don't want to sign an old vet. That has injury problems like most of the current O-line what sense does that make?

Then try to play him out of position. Hes a LT! Makes even less sense.

If you want a RT to replace OR challenge JJ. Get a FA, RT in here.

Exactly. I couldnt have said it better myself. Signing Pace would be a brilliant move. Between Samuels and Pace, i'd probably move Samuels to RT and keep Pace at LT. Next year we could draft a T with our 1st round pick and groom him behind Samuels and Pace.

This year, we could sit at 13 and take Maualuga if he's still there or trade down in the first (if we find a partner) and pick up a 2nd round pick. In the latter scenario, id draft LB and DE with my first two picks and use the third rounder on a project lineman.

The first part I agree with. Why take a risk with an unproven pick when we can get an all pro in Pace for 1 year? He can extend his career by moving to the right side where he won't face top pass rushers. SIGN PACE!!! I'd keep Samuels at LT and move Pace RT and draft a sure OT (I think Oher and Smith are risky at 13). I would not take Malauga, but other than that I agree with you for once BHA.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Pace is better than nothing. But, that's about it. He's probably a better one year option at RT than Jansen, but we can rely on him for about three weeks before we can expect him to be injured.

He'd be a good fit as our second string LT. But if we try to play him at RT, we'd likely just lose him for the year.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

it depends on the cost. pace would be a good one year option, but with his history, i wouldn't guarantee him much money... that way he can be cut when he gets hurt and whatever he didn't earn can go somewhere else...

Re: 2009 Free Agents

What about Marvel Smith from the Steelers. I know that he was hurt last year but I heard him on Sirius NFL radio a couple of weeks ago and he said that he was 100%. He started out as a RT when he first was drafted by the Steelers and moved to LT a few years ago. I haven't heard much about him during the free agency period but he was a solid player when healthy.

I'm pretty sure he's going back to Pittsburgh

Shouldn't they Doughty and Fincher stuff go on this thread? Why start a new one on each player we sign or resign?

My god do we really want one giant thread? What is this aversion to starting new threads lately?
