Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
What's really amazing is how George Allen was able to do all this for the Raiders and Bucs from his grave...or while he was governing Virginia
You forgot about the Redskins pursuit of Brandon Marshall as well The Redskins will be listed among suitors for just about everyone, whether it's true or not. There's no need to get carried away over rumors

The major difference between this year and 2000 is we were terrible last year and we have so many holes to fill. We need guys. Most of the players we are being connected to are at least young. Not the over the hill gang.

Bruce Allen said that we intend to bring in competition with the best players, so it seems as if we will be looking at some of the key players in FA, which really isn't an issue in my opinion at this point. If we start signing people that don't make sense for what we're trying to do then I'll complain. If we evaluate players that's more than fair. |

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
No to Darren Sproles. We already have Anthony Alridge on our roster. i wouldnt call Alridge a Sproles clone cuz Alridge isnt a very good returner but he can be a productive change of pace back. A very cheap version of of Sproles would be a Trindon Holliday. he was originally listed as a 6th-7th round prospect but id imagine he's moved up, but he plays Kick Returner, Punt Returner, RB, AND WR. Some coahes had him do alot of ball skill drills while at the combine and he did well.

sproles has proven that he can play in the nfl. aldridge is a fumble machine. until he can be trusted to hold onto the ball, i would rather have sproles.

Don't think of Sproles as a replacement for Alridge, but more as a replacement for Betts

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
Thats what I was thinking. Betts could still have a place on this team with Sproels. ARE and Rock would serve no purpose whatsoever.

Agreed... Sproles is a proven guy, Alridge at this point is nothing more than a camp scrub.

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
how many more "good years" should Sproles have left? I cant think more than 3, but I guess it would depend on how we used him. it'll be really interesting what kind of contract he gets.

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
Sproles isn't a pound between the tackles guy and has alot less wear and tear than alot of the other guys. I would think as a third down back he could last for awhile.
I agree Matty that Aldrige is a camp scrub. I would much rather have DS than Aldridge who is very fumble prone.

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
Year before last when Sproles led the Chargers to that playoff run I was completely impressed. The one thing we have lacked is a true, home run hitter, big play guy...a guy that opposing D cordinators have to game plan for. Santana Moss was that guy bout 3-4 years ago, and we have had solid, dependable guys like CP, Cooley, but no serious threats. DT may be that guy, but that is POTENTIAL, Sproles is the man, to answer the question BHA above I think 4 years minimum.

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
I would like to have Sproles in the backfield because I assume the Portis era is done after this year. I hope that they let Betts go this year.
I know that Shanny has a history of turning nobodies into somebodies but I would like to have at least one somebody as an option in the backfield. |

Re: Would Dunta Robinson & Darren Sproles be 'business as usual'?
Chico^ Darren is much like Maurice Jones-Drew in Jacksonville. A guy who can take it the distance when the right play is called. I totally agree that this O needs home run hitters. DS gives us that instantly. The Offense needs playmakers in the worst kind of way.
