This is, in my opinion, a harmless move if we do sign him. We have, particularly with no free agency or trades possible right now, limited options in improving our team. Adding some veteran DL help (and considerably younger than PD and Holliday) at what I expect will not be much money is fine by me. Just because we bring in one veteran doesn't mean it's the same old Skins and we're abandoning any and all efforts to get younger
What about building for a few years and realizing that it's going to take time, that this isn't a quick fix. What about that idea?

I don't see what one has to do with the other.

Because if S Rogers is playing he is taking up time that a younger guy could be learning. Just like if Moss comes back.

Using that line of logic.... Beck should have played over McNabb and Grossman. Our only option is to find the best 53 players we can.

Well, if you sign Shaun Rogers, the only chance you have of stumbling on the nose tackle of the future at any point of the 2011 season is if Rogers gets hurt, and was a wasteful money dump. Sometimes, all you do when you fill a hole is create a hole for the future.

With that said, I'm not naive enough to think that veteran performance that lives up to or exceeds the value of the contract wouldn't help this team. They just need more performers in general. And if one thing went right in Bruce Allen year one, it's that he did very, very well with contracts.

Well put. Your latter point about Allen's contracts leads me to think that Rogers would compete against some young guys in camp, e.g. Bryant. I would think that he would not be a lock to make the team. If he's better than a younger guy, and the young guy shows no particular promise for the future, why not keep the vet for a year or 2?

I totally agree that bringing him in is no big deal. We're certainly not going to give him a big contract. He'll be 32 next month and hasn't played much the past few seasons. If he's healthy and his head is right, he could help out in the trenches. If he does sign, I'd imagine it would be a short-term deal with lots of incentive based money.

The only way this will be a big deal (in a negative way) is if we overvalue and overpay him, expecting him to be some sort of anchor.

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking

I thought alot about this possible move and its alot of back and forth and good arguements can be made on the pros and con. In the end I think we should bring him in here and put him at NT. When looking at the weakness on this team, the DL stands out more than any other area IMO. We need major help there and we cant just do it all through the draft, especially with limited picks yet again.

2 points in this move, the first Bruce Allen is not going to give a crazy ass contract. Second, Fat F*ck POS cannot be compared to Shaun Rodgers. FFPOS circumstances are different, brought in by a different regime and basically his issue is he didnt want to play. Rodgers never been accused of effort that I know about, just several off the field issues.

Low risk in an area of the team that was just god aweful. Sign him up

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking

yeah shaun rogers, thats the guy that demands a trade with every team hes been with Lions/Browns I believe. He is just like AH. Great talent but his off the field selfishness carries back onto the field and seems like he is more disruptive than what he is really worth.

Where our the blue collar guys that want a contract, agree to the terms ,and plays lights/everything thats asked of him since it is his job and as a man values what his respect level and word is good for? (also must have passion to play beyond a paycheck) Where are they?

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking

From a football standpoint, signing Rogers is a good idea because he's been actually playing the 3-4 NT position for the past three seasons in Cleveland and has the built for that role.

We all know Haynesworth is a POS, but this is my beef with the coaching staff and the approach to the NT position. 3-4 defense teams like the 49ers, Patriots and Steelers all made sure they retained their star NTs last offseason. Green Bay went out and drafted BJ Raji to build him into the dominant NT he is becoming. Shanahan gambled with a headcase 4-3 DT (Haynesworth) and a 4-3 DT with health issues that had not played the NT position since 2005 (Kemo).

Right now this team needs to be set at the NT position. Rogers is a little bit of help, it would be huge if he is able to stay healthy and out of trouble. But the team should also hope to develop Bryant and/or draft a NT in the draft.

Well in my opinion he shouldn't have made the gamble in the first place and just left the defense alone. But whatever, he's the expert.
