That's it, IMO. People who are gnashing teeth about what this receiver or tight end can't do just need to look at who Smith is as a QB. He's not one to elevate who's around him. He's an okay/steady QB, and if surrounded by the "right" personnel will excel.

Cousins may have thrown more picks by now than Smith, but he'd be able to elevate the play of his personnel.

Yesterday's loss didn't have much of anything to do with Smith. Of course, it's a team game and the offense certainly didn't do enough, but with the penalties, injuries to our O-line, poor play from our ILBs and safeties in the run game (ILBs played poorly in the run and passing game), and the lack of ability to adjust to what's happening in front in them re: Gruden and Manusky, then yesterday is what you got.

Agree with all of this. At this point this team is what it is, avg to slightly above avg overall, that probably shouldn't win its division

Re: Postgame Falcons

I remember going to a Redskin game back in 05. Gibbs really had a good team that year and it was a home game against the 49ers. So I had these seats behind the 49ers bench and watched Smith throw duck after duck after duck in warmups. I never forgot that and could not believe that an NFL QB drafted #1 overall could not spin the ball.

And seriously a big F you to the front office for the way they handled the left guard position. It's really inexcusable.

Not only the left guard, but the entire depth situation with the interior O line.

I called it offseason. Its been mismanaged from the beginning. They should have spent 1.0-2.5 million for a Vet interior Olineman...they insisted on going with UDFA and garbage off the street that couldn't make other teams.

Luavao single handly cost us the first possession of the game..FFS..You don't get a lot of possessions and our fucking LG cost us 1.

Re: Postgame Falcons

Matt Ryans 4 tds yesterday.

AVG Depth of target = 1 yard
AVG YAC = 31 Yards.

Atlanta started out 8-8 on 3rd down, there is no excuse for that.

Yeah the offense sucks but the defense was laughable yesterday.

Re: Postgame Falcons

Didn't the Falcons have two guards out? They certainly didn't have any problems what so ever running the ball right down our fucking throats. I'm tired of this o-line. All these guys do is get hurt every year. Knowing that, you have to have good backups. The kid from Louisville is weak and needs to live in the weight room.

I understand your point, but the Falcons had time to prepare with their guards (who has been played a game or more under their belts, and even a bye week). Our guards were fresh, and frankly didn't play all too bad IMO.

The Falcons' run game yesterday consisted of doubling our tackles or running on the perimeter of our defense. They outschemed us, along with our ILBs and safeties failure to fill gaps.

Apples and oranges. It's one thing if the Falcons lost both starting guards in the game yesterday AND had brand new players who have never been in a regular season NFL game before coming off the bench.

The real problem is that this team doesn't know how to draft depth for their offensive line. Every year, there's some deficiency the front office either fails to recognize or doesn't have the funds to address.

Re: Postgame Falcons

Some numbers yesterday.

Norman vs Julio

8 targets
5 catches 83 yards
1 td

That's not terrible tbh, Julio as we all know is a great wr.

Doc was targeted 6 times, 2 drops and only 31 yards receiving. Nice TD catch tho.

Alex averaged a 6.7 YPA yesterday, it was the 4th time he did not get over 7 YPA this season. With the injuries to the line, I'd expect the same.

Smith's best game was GB where he averaged 11 YPA.

Matt Ryan 3 step drop and the ball was out. Just a smooth passing game with anticipating routes and coverage.

Alex had time and looks like he never knows where the ball is going when he drops back. Happy feet and the check down seems to be his favorite option.

Matt's avg YPA yesterday was 9.2 , he is on a tear and we knew that, and yesterday was like pitch and catch to him.

The two drops were crucial and at that time the game was still in balance. The guy doesn't have it. Most of his catches the defender is all over him, he can not get away from NFL DB's. He can do the fades but that is all he is good at. Then when he makes a play he has to spin the ball like he's Jerry Rice and he done something fucking special. Look at the score you stupid ass! That play just infuriated me. Just go back to the huddle and get on w/ the damn game. That is a culture thing. That is on the head coach. You would never ever see that shit go on in New England. Ever.
