If you are older (me for example), this requires jettisoning a great deal of history that was seen first hand. I have seen the Skins in 5 Super Bowls and numerous playoff appearances. The franchise has basically had 3 periods of glory and I was there for 2 of them.

It's not being a caveman to regret that all of this will either be forgotten or have an asterisk placed next to it. Sentiment, Pride, Nostalgia, etc are not the attributes of cavemen, MTK. Quite the opposite actually.

And of course there will be a lingering sense of grievance that this was unjustified and forced on us.

May the caveman ask why you are so cool with it? Why are you seemingly happy that this happened to us?
I’ve been a loyal fan since I was 10 in 1982. Nobody is erasing the history of this team, it’s all still there, it happened. But times change and here we are facing a new era. I’m excited about the future and will always be proud of the past.

The caveman reference is more about the fans that aren’t going to accept the change under any circumstance.

I think as good a portion will continue to call them the Redskins. We'll wear our Redskins gear, sing the song and call the team the Redskins, which I'm sure will get an angry reaction from the woke.

I doubt that will happen at the stadium. The team should build the new brand up with gear and media. It isn't about the woke its about rooting for a group of men on a team. Can't believe how hard it is for some people to let go of a brand. And I didn't want it changed. I was 18 in 85 so I grew up with the Redskins glory. But I am 53 now, the team changed its name. So be it. I truly feel sorry for those who can't move their lives past a logo.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins

I totally understand peoples emotional connection to the team and it’s past glory. It’s part of fandom, their childhood…it’s nostalgic and makes them feel good. I understand how it can feel like some of that is being taken away. I get that perspective and I’m fine with it. Where your skins stuff, wave the redskins banner, shit, sing HTTR loud and proud

But I also totally understand and accept things change and the team has moved on. The team has been terrible for 20 years…it’s time for something new. Change name and let’s get it on. Younger generation don’t remember the past glory so maybe it’s time to start a new legacy? I understand that as well.

I think both sides should accept both views and just respect it. Neither is incorrect

I felt that way too, but then I thought those might become vintage.
Like if Chase Young has an awesome career as a Redwolf/Wolf/Commander/WhateverThisIsNotThePointOfThisPost, I think having a Young WFT rookie season jersey is kinda cool.

But yeah, can't wait for the new name to be announced in early 2022.

I can better that I have a Chase Young Redskin Jersey (Not a Pirate or custom job either). The last 1st round pick of the Redskins should be worth something in a few years.

I hope they stick with WFT but they won't - it would make it too easy to still call them the Redskins.

Yep, I understand why some like it, but there is no way they're sticking with WFT. Jason and his team would look so lame after talking up the renaming process and bragging about the trillions of fans inputs they received for 2 years, if in the end they stuck with the temporary name found in 2 weeks.

At this point I kind of feel like they will look lame no matter their choice. Unless the whole roll out is without a hitch (no roller derby team pop ups) and it is a clear reflection of diligent effort, there will be questions as to why it took so long. Someone on here suggested they are purposely letting it span two years to have the fans ready for a name, no matter what that name is. If that WAS part of their plan, then kudos it is working. If it wasn't and they go with an obvious one (wolves, wft, sentinels) then they need to explain why it took 2 years.

I hope they have all their ducks in a row, and start doing some "subliminal prepping" so that we can rock the new name asap.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins

At first I thought the ideal change would be something that kept the NA theme (warriors etc) .. then the team says it wants nothing to do with any NA theme .. but the colors are okay , I’m good with that in fact I’ll be glad when the Whole NA thing just goes away .. it’s like breaking up with your girlfriend and she just wants to be friends … yea right it’s best just to go in opposite directions.. I hope that is what happens.. The Whole WFT name was us a tongue and cheek slap in the face to all that pushed the change .. it least that’s my opinion.. I sorta kinda like the Wolf idea ( kinda seems forced) .. I like the Washington Monuments , Washington Freedom, something patriotic .. enough with the animal thing .. I know we got the New England patriots but there is always room for patriotic theme … just a opinion from somebody who’s opinion ain’t worth anything😀🇺🇸
