Before he didn't have a problem with it because they were paying him on an hourly basis which meant overtime but then they switched him to salary. He's still a good solider but I have a hard time believing that he won't get better offers if/when the economy picks up.

This "you should be thankful you have a job" crap is getting old.

My company has always run lean with staffing, but right now it's so bad it's a joke. There's really no incentive to work hard, because you only get more work piled on you if you're a top performer. It's sad when everyone's goal is to just do enough to slide by. What's amazing is the company can't see or understand that this is the culture they have created and continue to perpetuate.

This is us right now. i'm an IT proj mgr and as of today have 5 different projects going at once, plus several other collateral duties thrown in. The more you show you can handle, the more they pile on.

I will maintain the connections I had but I'm not going to be sitting in on meetings so info from some people won't be as quickly or directly received at times.

Oh hell yeah I'm jealous. Since I can't play contact sports I feel like a job involving professional sports in some capacity would be excellent. Of course I'd need to go back to school to do that, and blah blah blah excuses excuses. Maybe someday though.

There's a company here in Atlanta that has advertised "Sports Marketing" for kids out of college. What they didn't tell you in the interview was they drop you off at some neighborhood far away from your home and have you go door to door selling coupons they may or may not involve the Atlanta Falcons and your pay is 100% commission. Lucky for me the internet reviews flag such jobs for you.

I went for a sports marketing position whilst I was still in uni (casual? part-time? can't remember...). Turned out that sports marketing == selling raffle tickets in shopping centres. They actually took me to a shopping centre to show me how to sell them too...

LOL. Well yeah you're partially right. It's part of, a big part, what I'm currently working on. There's more, it just doesn't exist yet. Working on creating it

Re: What did you do at work today?

Why would you need to go back to school? What's your current skillet? This is such a crazy change for me. I'm like Marty Schottenheimer agreeing to coach a UFL team. But it's exciting.
